Anda ülevaade ja baasteadmised kunsti, disaini ja arhitektuuri ning linnaplaneerimise ajaloost ja arengust 19. sajandi teisest poolest kuni tänapäevani. Iseloomustada modernistliku ja modernismijärgse kunsti, arhitektuuri ja linnaplaneerimise erinevaid suundumusi, manifeste, kunstisuundade silmapaistvate esindajate ning arhitektide-teerajajate loomingut ning teoreetilisi seisukohti. Anda ülevaade tänapäeva kunstist, disainist, arhitektuurist ja linnaplaneerimisest.

Goals: To provide an overview and basic understanding of the history of art, design, architecture and urban planning from the second half of the 19th century to the present day. To characterize the modernist and postmodernist art and architecture trends, manifestos, artworks, buildings and planning projects and their theoretical concepts. To provide an overview of contemporary art, design, architecture and planning.

Kursuse läbinud tudeng:
- orienteerub perioodi kunsti, disaini, arhitektuuri ja linnaplaneerimise arengus ja stilistikas.
- oskab leida seoseid kunsti-, arhitektuuri- ja kultuuriloo vahel.
- oskab kunsti ja arhitektuuri periodiseerida.
- oskab analüüsida kunstiteoseid ja arhitektuuri;
- tunneb erinevate perioodide tähtsamaid kunsti- ja arhitektuuriteoseid ning nende autoreid, oskab neid dateerida.
- tunneb uuema aja kunsti- ja arhitektuuriteoreetilisi lähtekohti;
- oskab kirjutada kunsti- ja arhitektuuriloolist teksti.

After completion of the course the student:
- Orients in art, design, architecture and planning of the period.
- Finds connections between art, architecture and cultural history.
- Orientates in periodization of modern art and architecture.
- Knows how to analyse art works and architecture.
- Knows the main trends of modern art, design and architecture, widely recognized artists and architects and their works; is able to date them. – Knows the theoretical concepts of modern art and architecture.
- Can write a review about the history of modern art and architecture.

Aines käsitletakse Euroopa ja maailma kunsti, arhitektuuri ja linnaplaneerimise ajaloolist arengut 19. sajandi teisest poolest kuni tänapäevani, avades nende seoseid ühiskonna sotsiaal-poliitilise ja kultuurilise arenguga. Käsitletakse modernistliku kunsti, disaini ja arhitektuuri stilistilist arengut ja linnade kujunemist industriaalajastust tänapäevani. Käsitletakse kaasaegse kunsti problemaatikat, arhitektuuri ja linnaplaneerimise suundumusi ja probleemistikku, sealhulgas säästva arengu uuemaid suundi arhitektuuris.
brief description of the course in English
The course deals with European and the world art, architecture and urban planning from the second half of the 19th century until today, opening its relations to the socio-political and cultural context. The themes include modernist art, design, architecture, and urban planning from the industrial until 21st century town planning. Consists the developments of contemporary architecture within the general concept of sustainable development.
