Anda ülevaade tähtsamatest moodsa arhitektuuri ja linnaplaneerimise teooriatest 20. sajandi algusest 21. sajandi alguseni. Juhatada tudengid tähtsamate arhitektide ja filosoofide arhitektuuriteooria tekstide juurde, anda neist süsteemne ülevaade ning iseloomustada ajaloolises ja kaasaegse filosoofia kontekstis. Tutvustada kaasaegseid urbanismi teoreetilise analüüsi võimalusi. Avada seoseid teooria ja kaasegse arhitektuuri vahel.

To provide an overview of the most important modern theories of architecture and urban planning, from the early 20th century up to now. To lead the students to the most important texts by philosophers and architects-theorists. To give a systematic overview of theoretical texts on architecture in the context of modern history and philosophy. To open the relationships between theory and contemporary architecture.

2. Orienteerub arhitektuuri ja planeerimisteooriates
3. Oskab analüüsida ja kontekstualiseerida
arhitektuuriteoreetilisi ja arhitektuurifilosoofilisi tekste.
4. Oskab näha seoseid arhitektuuriteooria ja filosoofia, sotsioloogia ja muude teaduste vahel, oskab seostada teooriat ja arhitektuurset praktikat.
5. On omandanud erialase teoreetilise teksti kirjutamise baaskogemuse.

After completion of the course the student
1. understands the importance and the role of theories in architecture
2. orientates in the architecture and planning theories and knows their authors
3. is able to analyze and contextualize theoretical and philosophical texts on architecture and planning.
4. is able to see connections between architectural theory and philosophy, sociology, and other sciences, to link theory and architectural practice.
5. has gained basic skills on writing professional theoretical text.

Õppeaine keskendub arhitektuuri- ja linnaplaneerimisteooriatele modernismist tänapäevani, avab arhitektuuriteooria seoseid sotsioloogia ning kaasaegse filosoofiaga. Käsitleb säästva arengu imperatiivi raames kujunenud uuemaid teooriaid.

The course is dealing with the modern architecture and urban planning theories from the early 20th century up to the beginning of the 21st century, opens the links between architecture theories and contemporary sociology and philosophy. Introduces recent theories within the imperative of sustainable development.
