Anda ülevaade Eesti professionaalse arhitektuuri ja linnaplaneerimise ajaloost alates selle kujunemisest 20. sajandi alguses kuni kaasajani. Tutvustada Eesti arhitektuuri tähtsamaid perioode ja arengusuundi ning tuntumate arhitektide loomingut Eesti ajaloo ning maailma arhitektuuri arengu kontekstis. Valgustada kaasaegse Eesti arhitektuuri probleeme.

To provide an overview of Estonian professional architecture and urban planning history since its formation at the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. To introduce the most important periods and developments of Estonian architecture and most known architects and their projects in the context of Estonian history and the history of world architecture. To enlighten the problems of contemporary Estonian architecture.

Kursuse läbinud üliõpilane:
1. orienteerub Eesti arhitektuuri ja linnaplaneerimise kujunemisloos, perioodides ning stilistilistes arengusuundades 20. sajandi algusest tänapäevani ning oskab neid seostada Eesti ajaloo ning maailma arhitektuuriajaloo kontekstiga.
2. tunneb ja oskab kriitiliselt analüüsida tähtsamate Eesti arhitektide ja linnaplaneerijate loomingut.
3. on kursis tänase Eesti arhitektuuri põhililste suundumustega

After completion of the course the student:
1. orientates in the Estonian architecture and city planning history, periods and stylistic trends of the 20th century to the present day and is able to contextualize it with the Estonian history as well as with the world's architecture.
2. knows and is able to critically analyze the works and planning projects of most important Estonian architects.
3. is keeping up with main trends of Estonian contemporary architecture.

Aine hõlmab Eesti professionaalse arhitektuuri ja linnaplaneerimise kujunemislugu alates 20. sajandi algusest kuni tänapäevani.
Käsitletavad teemad: historitsism, rahvusromantism ja juugendstiil, ekspressionism ja funktsionalism, 1930. aastate esindusarhitektuur, stalinistlik arhitektuur, 1960. aastate modernistlik arhitektuur, postmodernistlik pööre Eesti arhitektuuris, 1990. aastate arhitektuur, tähtsamate avalike hoonete arhitektuurikonkursid, tänase Eesti arhitektuur. Linnaplaneerimine Eestis läbi 20. sajandi tänapäevani.

The program deals with Estonian professional architecture and urban planning from the 20th century to the present day.
Topics to be covered: Historicism, National Romanticism and Art Nouveau, Expressionism and Functionalism, the representative architecture of the 1930s, Stalinist architecture, 1960s modernist architecture, Post-Modernism,1990s architecture, most important architectural competitions for public buildings, contemporary Estonian architecture. Urban planning in the 20th century to the present day.
