- arvutada terasest konstruktsioonielementide ristlõigete kandevõimet erinevate sisejõudude ja nende koosmõju suhtes;
- arvestada kohaliku stabiilsuskao mõju elemendi kandevõimele;
- arvutada terasest konstruktsioonielemente lähtuvalt üldstabiilsusest;
- polt- ja keevisliidete arvutuse põhialuseid.

Student having passed the course should be able:
- to calculate the load capacity of steel structural members under the influence of different internal forces and their interaction;
- to evaluate the influence of local loss of stability of a structural member on its load capacity;
- to carry out global stability analysis of steel structural members;
- to dimension basic types of bolted and welded joints;
- to design beams, beam systems and columns made of steel.

Õppeaine sisaldab kursuseprojekti, mille sisuks on lihtsa post-tala süsteemis ühekorruselise teraskarkassi arvutus ja konstrueerimine.

Production and properties of steel. Steel profiles ant their classification. Dimensioning of tension members. Load capacity of steel members under compression, bending, shear and combined loading. Shear stability of the beam web and its load capacity under concentrated force. Stability of bars: buckling, lateral torsional buckling, interaction of compressive and bending loads. Bolted joints. Welded joints. Beams and beam systems. Columns. The subject of the course project is dimensioning of a simple one-story steel frame building.
