course aims in Estonian
Aine eesmärk on:
- anda ülevaade andmesidetehnoloogiate põhilistest standarditest, millised on kasutuses tööstuslikes andmesidevõrkudes;
- anda ülevaade traadiga ja traadita võrkude põhitüüpidest, lähi- ja kaugside võimalustest ja andmeside töökindlusest ja võimekusest nendes võrkudes;
- tutvustada praktilisi tööstuslikke andmesiderakendusi erinevate tööstuslike rakenduste ja hajussensorsüsteemide baasil.

The aim of this course is to:
- provide an overview of the main data communication standards used in industrial data networks;
- provide an overview of wired and wireless network main types, local area and wide area network prospects, data communication reliability and capabilities within these networks;
- introduce practical industrial data communication applications for selected industrial and distributed sensing systems.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- nimetab põhilisi tööstuslikke andmesidestandardeid ja -printsiipe digitaalse andmevahetuse korraldamiseks;
- kirjeldab erinevaid tööstuslikke andmesidestandardeid, iseloomustab nende töökindlust ja andmevahetuskiirust;
- kirjeldab viise, kuidas üles seada tüüpilised andmesidevõrgud, et vahetada andmeid tööstusrakendustes;
- nimetab ülesandes seatud tingimustele vastava andmesidestandardi ja hindab selle sobivuse kriteeriume;
- kirjeldab ülesandes seatud andmeallika (kaugsensori) jaoks vajalikke andmevahetusparameetreid, sh töökiirust, ajakriitilisust.

After completing the course, the student:
- lists the main data communication standards and principles for the digital data transmission;
- describes the different industrial data communication standards, characterizes their reliability and data transmission rates;
- describes methods to set up typical data transmission networks for operation in industrial environment;
- lists the data communication standard to practically fulfil the conditions set as a task of the course, analysing its suitability for the application;
- describes the required data transmission characteristics for the data source (remote sensor) listed in the task of this course including time delay.

Tööstuslike andmesidevõrkude printsiibid ja topoloogiad. Digitaal-andmevahetuse alused, pakettandmeside ja sideprotokollid. Tööstuslikud põhistandardid, RS-232, RS-485, CAN, EtherCat, Ethernet. Traadita andmeside tööprintsiibid, tööstuslikud traadita sidel põhinevad andmesidevõrgud. Kaugsensorite töö korraldamine ja andmeside parameetrid. Õppeaine raames omandavad lahendavad tudengid praktilise ülesande.

Principles and topologies for industrial data communication networks. Digital data communication architectures, data packets and communication protocols. Industrial main standards, RS-232, RS-485, CAN, EtherCat, Ethernet. Wireless communication principles, industrial wireless data networks. Remote sensor operation and data transmission characteristics. Solving a practical task within the course.
