course aims in Estonian
Õppeaine eesmärk on:
- arendada oskusi insenerliku teadus- ja arendus (T&A) projekti teema valikuks ja teema uudsuse ning olulisuse analüüsiks magistritöö teema valimisel;
- anda teadmised teadusliku töö struktuuri ja vormi nõuetest ning ettekande ettevalmistamisest ja esitamisest töö teema valiku põhjendamise ja töö tulemuste kaitsmise käigus;
- kujundada teadustöö planeerimise, intellektuaalomandi ja eetika aspektidega arvestamise oskusi teadustöös.

- to provide knowledge about the structure and formatting requirements of scientific work, as well as the preparation and delivery of presentations during the justification of the topic selection and the defense of research results;
- to develop the ability to plan scientific work while considering aspects of intellectual property and ethics.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
Kursuse läbinud üliõpilane:
- põhjendab valitud lõputöö teema vastavust inseneriteaduskonna nõuetele, hinnates teema uudsust, olulisust ja teostatavust;
- loob oma uurimis- või projekteerimistöö tulemuste põhjal esitluse ja esitleb seda seminaris, demonstreerides argumenteerimisoskust ja esitluse vormistusnõuete rakendamist;
- analüüsib ja sünteesib erialast kirjandust ning koostab selle põhjal kriitilise ülevaate ja magistritöö esimese peatüki, järgides viitamise põhimõtteid;
- kavandab lõputöö koostamise protsessi, rakendades selleks teadustöö ja inseneriprojekti planeerimise meetodeid ning arvestades intellektuaalomandi ja eetika aspektidega.
learning outcomes in the course in Eng.
After completing this course, the student:
- justifies the compliance of the chosen thesis topic with the requirements of the School of Engineering, evaluating the novelty, importance and feasibility of the topic;
- creates a presentation based on the results of his/her research or design project and presents it in a seminar, demonstrating argumentation skills and compliance with presentation formatting requirements;
- analyzes and synthesizes professional literature and, on this basis, prepares a critical review and writes the first chapter of the master’s thesis, in accordance with referencing principles;
- plans the thesis preparation process, applying scientific research and engineering project planning methods, and takes into account intellectual property and ethical considerations.
brief description of the course in Estonian
brief description of the course in English
A systematic approach to conducting scientific research and preparing a master’s thesis. Formulating problems that require solutions and understanding the broader context of the problem, including conducting a state-of-the-art analysis on the master’s thesis topic. Regular presentations in course seminars for analysing the topic through group work. Conflicts and shared goals between engineering tasks and scientific research. Novelty and scientific aspects of an engineering project and their role in the project's success. Independent work with professional literature.
