Aine eesmärk on tutvustada kaasaegse jõuelektroonika arengusuundi, põhilisi skeemitopoloogiaid, projekteerimise ja juhtimise metoodikaid, jõuelektroonika rakendusvaldkondi ning nende eripärasid.

The aim of this course is to introduce development trends of modern power electronics, basic circuit topologies, design and control methodologies, application fields of power electronics and their special features.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane
- kirjeldab pooljuhtmuundurite rakendamist tüüpilistes ülesannetes;
- nimetab sobiliku lahenduse teatud elektrilise koormuse varustamiseks läbi pooljuhtmuunduri;
- kavandab töötava pooljuhtmuunduri, mis täidaks kursuse raames etteantud ülesannet, ja kontrollib kavandatu põhjal realiseeritud muunduri talitlusparameetreid.

After completing this course, the student:
- describes the application of switching converters in typical applications,
- specifies appropriate solution to guarantee an electric power supply to a specific load using switching converter;
- designs an operating switching converter that fulfils a task specified for the course content, and verifies the operating parameters in comparison to the design values.

Loengud katavad järgnevaid teemasid:
- jõuelektroonika mõiste ja arengusuunad;
- ülevaade kaasaegsetest pooljuhtmuundurite projekteerimise, modelleerimise ja juhtimise meetoditest;
- pooljuhtmuundurite komponendid, põhilised skeemitopoloogiad ja talitlusviisid;
- pooljuhtmuundurite tüübid, parameetrid ja võimekus erinevates rakendustes;
- ülevaade pooljuhtmuundurite töörežiimidest, talitlusest eriolukordades ja kaitsefunktsioonidest;
- ülevaade muundurite reguleerimise põhimõtetest ja tagasisideahelate ülesehitusest.

Harjutustundides õpitakse kasutama jõuelektroonika modelleerimistarkvarasid, arvutama muundurite parameetreid erinevates töörežiimides, valima sobivaid komponente, muundurite kiirprototüüpimist ja riistvara reaalajalist simuleerimist.

Praktikumides harjutatakse pooljuhtmuundurite kavandamist, ehitamist ja katsetamist.

The lectures cover the following topics:
- power electronics definition and development trends;
- an overview of modern power electronic converter design, modeling and control methods;
- components of power electronic converters, basic circuit topologies and modes of operation;
- types, parameters and capabilities of power electronic converters in different applications;
- operating modes of power electronic converters, operation in special situations and protection functions;
- converter control principles and the structures of feedback systems.

In the exercises, you will learn to use power electronics modeling software, calculate converter parameters in different operating modes, choose suitable components, rapid prototyping of converters and hardware in the loop simulation.

In the practical part, the design, construction and testing of power electronic converters are practiced.
