Õppeaine eesmärk on omandada katlatehnikaalased mõisted ja põhiteadmised põlemisprotsessi, põletamisviiside ning põletustehnoloogiate kohta; kinnistada oskused eri kütuste materjalibilansi teostamiseks; omandada oskused katla soojustehnilisteks arvutusteks, soojusbilansi koostamiseks ja kadude arvutamiseks; saada teadmisi katla konstruktsioonist, selle elementidest ja materjalidest; omandada teadmised vee ettevalmistuse, veerežiimide ja seadmete kohta ning katelde ekspluatatsiooni (käitamise), küttepindade puhastamise, korrosiooni ja suitsugaaside puhastamise kohta; saada kodusmaist oskusteavet katelseadmete töö efektiivsuse ja töökindluse osas.

The aim of this course is to understand basic concepts about boilers, combustion processes, firing modes and technologies; fasten skills for combustion calculations of different fuels; get a basic knowledge for boiler thermal calculations, heat-balance composing and heat losses calculations; get knowledge upon boiler construction, construction elements and materials; obtain knowledge of water technology, water treatment techniques and equipment; get basics about boiler operation, cleaning of heat-transfer surfaces, corrosion and flue gas cleaning; get home country know-how of boilers efficiency and reliability.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- teab katlatehnika olukorda ja probleeme nii Eestis kui ka väljaspool Eestit;
- on ettevalmistatud koostamaks katla soojusbilanssi, katla soojuskadude ja katla soojustehnilisi arvutusi;
- teab võimalusi erinevate kütuste põletamiseks ning vastavate seadmete valikuks;
- tunneb katla konstruktsioone, elemente ja oskab valida materjale;
- teab, milline peaks olema katla vee ettevalmistus, ja oskab valida õigeid seadmeid;
- oskab valida eri küttepindadele puhastusseadmeid ja teha valikuid suitsugaaside puhastamiseks.

After completing this course the student:
- knows state of art, problems of boiler technology in Estonia and abroad;
- is ready to prepare heat absorption and boiler efficiency calculations;
- knows the ways for burning different fuels and is able to choose equipment;
- knows boiler construction, construction elements and materials;
- knows water technology, water treatment techniques and equipment;
- can select the equipment for cleaning different heat-transfer surfaces and flue gas.

Põletustehnoloogiad ja seadmed. Katla mõiste ja põhitüübid. Katelseade.
Kütuse kasutamise efektiivsus, katla soojuskaod ja soojusbilanss. Kolded, koldeprotsessid, kiht- ja kamberkolded. Gaasi-, vedel- ja tahkekütuse põletamise viisid. Soojusülekanne kateldes. Soojustehniline arvutus. Katla hüdrodünaamika. Katla materjalid. Küttepindade konstruktsioonid, aurustusküttepinnad, ülekuumendid, ökonomaiserid ja õhueelsoojendid. Vee kvaliteedi tunnussuurused, vee ja auru kontrolli meetodid. Katla vee ettevalmistus: koaguleerimine, pehmendamine, sooladest vabastamine, deaereerimine.
Katelde veerežiimid. Aurukatala soolade bilanss. Vee kationeerimine ja anioneerimine. Auru separatsioon.
Katelde vee ja aurutrakt. Õhu ja gaasitrakt. Katelde ekspluatatsioon. Küttepindade korrosioon ja saastumine. Küttepindade puhastamine tuhasadestistes.
Suitsugaaside puhastamine (SO2, NOx, lendtuhk jne).

Boiler concept and prototypes. Methods of burning different fuels.
The efficiency of using fuels. Boiler heat losses.
Furnaces. Furnace performance and processes in furnace. Furnace design considerations: permanent bed, fluidized-bed and furnaces for pulverized coal firing. Furnaces for oil and gas firing.
Boiler hydrodynamics.
Elements of boiler heat transfer. Draft losses.
Materials selection for boiler components.
Furnace water-wall constructions, super heaters, economizers and air heaters.
Boilers water/steam circulation. Separation of steam and water.
Practical fuel-firing. Boiler auxiliary equipment.
Corrosion and fouling. Cleaning heat transfer surfaces.
Dust collection, control of SO2 emissions, fuel-gas desulfurization systems and control of oxides of nitrogen.
