Aine eesmärk on:
- anda ülevaade puidutööstuse peamistest tootmissuundadest: puidu kuivatamine, saematerjalide tootmine ja kvaliteediklassid, puidu modifitseerimine;
- tutvustada tehnoloogiaid, kasutatavaid seadmeid ja nende tehnoloogilisi võimalusi;
- mõtestada lahti puidu struktuuri ja sellest tuleneva töötlemisvajaduse seosed.

The aim of this course is to give:
- give an overview of main production technologies of woodworking industry: wood drying, sawn timber production and timber grading, wood modification, wood;
- introduce the technologies, devices used and their technical capabilities;
- knowledge of how wood structure affects wood processing.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- tunneb peamisi puidu anatoomilist ehitust ja puidu töötlemise protsesse;
- orienteerub kasutatavate seadmete tehnoloogilistes võimalustes;
- kavandab puidust toote tootmisprotsessi;
- valib sobilikku materjali ning valmistamistehnoloogia;
- teab puittoodete põhilisi kvaliteedinõudeid;
- oskab tootmist efektiivistada, pakkudes selleks välja tehnilisi lahendusi.

- knows the main anatomical structure of wood and wood processing methods;
- orientates in technological possibilities of main woodworking equipment;
- plans a production process for construction details in wood;
- chooses suitable technological route;

- is able to increase the effectiveness of the production by offering technological solutions.

Puidu lõiketöötlemise alused ja nende seos puidu anatoomilise struktuuriga. Saematerjali tehnoloogia, lahti saagimise skeemid, saekavad, sorteerimine ja kvaliteediklassid. Hööveldamine ja profiilide tootmine, sõrmjätkamine. Ülevaade puittoodete tootmistehnoloogiatest. Puitdetailide (aknad, uksed) tootmine.
Puidu kuivatamise tehnoloogia, protsesside teoreetilised alused, kuivatusseadmed, kuivatuse erimeetodid, kvaliteedi hindamine tootmisprotsessil. Puidu modifitseerimine: immutamine, termiline modifitseerimine, keemiline modifitseerimine, teoreetilised alused ja tehnoloogilised protsessid. Innovatiivsed meetodid puidu töötlemisel, plasmatöötlus, superkriitiline töötlemine, laserlõikus.

Basics of wood cutting and how wood structure affects processing of wood. Basics of wood cutting technologies. Sawmilling, sawing schemes saw plan, quality classes of sawn timber. Planed timber and production of profiles. Fingerjointing. Overview of manufacturing technologies of wood products: joineries, windows, doors and their framing. Wood drying technology, theoretical bases of the processes, wood drying equipment, special methods of wood drying, quality assessment in the production process. Wood modification technology, impregnation, thermal modification of wood, chemical modification of wood, theoretical bases and technological processeses. Innovative methods in wood processing, plasma processing, supercritical processing, laser cutting.
