Anda alusteadmised ja vajalikud oskused laevaehitusest, et luua alus laevaehitus- ja merendussektoris töötamiseks ja süvendatud õppetööks. Õppeaine raames käsitletakse peamisi temaatikaid, mis laevade projekteerimise ja ehitusega seonduvad: laevade liigitus ja klassifitseerimine, laeva peamõõtmed, laevade püstuvus, hüdrostaatika, hüdrodünaamika, takistuse ja meresõiduomaduste hindamine, laeva üld- ja lokaalne tugevus, laeva jõu- ja käiturseadmed ning süsteemid, laeva projekteerimise metoodikad, laeva kaalu hindamine ja järelevalve.
Kursuse raames koostatakse valitud laeva eskiisprojekt, mille raames läbitakse kõik peamised etapid laeva projekteerimisel.

Õppeaine on eeldusaine TalTechi ja Aalto Ülikooli laevaehituse magistriõppe ühisõppekavale.

Course aims to provide basic knowledge on naval architecture and forms the basis to work in the shipbuilding industry and for deeper studies in the field. The course covers the main topics of ship design and shipbuilding: ship classification, main dimensions, ship stability, hydrostatics and -dynamics, resistance assessment, global and local strength, ship machinery, propulsion, ship design methodology, weight assessment and monitoring. As a course assignment a conceptual design of a selected ship is prepared by going through all the main steps in ship design.

The course is a prerequisite for a joint study program in Naval Architecture between TalTech and Aalto University.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- mõistab laevaehituse aluseid ja toimimisloogikat;
- tunneb laevanduslikku terminoloogiat
- omab alusteadmisi laevandussektoris töötamiseks ja süvendatud õppetööks;
- valib laeva peamõõtmeid vastavalt laeva opereerimisprofiilile;
- teeb laeva püstuvus-, hüdrostaatilisi ja -dünaamilisi arvutusi;
- määrab laeva sõidutakistust;
- valib laevale jõu- ja käiturseadmeid;
- hindab laeva üldtugevust;
- hindab laeva lokaalsete konstruktsioonielementide tugevust;
- hindab laeva kaalu;
- tunneb laevade klassifitseerimise põhimõtteid;
- rakendab oskusi laeva eskiisprojekti koostamisel.

After the completion of the course the student:
- has a basic understanding of shipbuilding and its underlying logics;
- knows the terminology;
- has basic knowledge to work in the field of naval architecture;
- selects the main dimensions according to the operational profile;
- conducts stability, hydrostatic and –dynamic assessment;
- determines ship’s resistance;
- selects ship machinery and propulsion system;
- assesses ship’s global and local strength;
- estimates ship’s weight and construction prize;
- understands the principles of ship classification;
- applies the knowledge on the preparation in ship concept design project.
