VERSION SPECIFIC DATA
course aims in Estonian
course aims in English
Gain knowledge and skills on the flow hydraulics. Use the hydraulic formulae and corresponding computational methods for solving the drainage problems of surface water, groundwater seepage and groundwater, and the engineering tasks that are related to the hydrological system. Meet the engineering software possibilities in solving the modelling tasks, which are presented in the course.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.

• Tunneb vee voolamist iseloomustavate suuruste mõõtmismeetodeid ja vastavaid mõõtevahendeid hüdroloogilise süsteemi jaoks;
• Oskab kasutada sagedusanalüüsi voolamist iseloomustavate suuruste määramiseks veeristes (truup, sillaava jm), mis on hüdroloogilise süsteemi osa.
learning outcomes in the course in Eng.
• Can choose the quantities of steady-state flow for water drainage at fixed flow rate;
• Can choose the quantities of gradually varied flow for water
drainage at fixed flow rate;
• Can choose the quantities of overflow in the upstream and downstream sides of weir for determination of flow rate, including the quantities of rapidly varied flow;
• Knows the purpose, classification and calculation basics of the water drainage structures (dams, wells, culverts, etc) and hydraulic machinery (pumps);
• Knows the measurement methods and measuring systems of the quantities characterizing water flow in the hydrological system;
• Can apply a frequency analysis to determine the quantities that characterize the flow in water crossing (culvert, bridge opening, etc.), which is part of the hydrological system.
brief description of the course in Estonian
Õppeaine selgitab hüdraulika valemite kasutamist survevoolu, vabavoolu ja filtratsioonivoolu arvutamiseks. Kasutatakse numbrilisi ja statistilisi arvutusmeetodeid pinna-, pinnase- ja põhjavee ärajuhtimise määramiseks. Selgitatakse hüdromeetrilisi mõõtmismeetodeid ja vastavate mõõtevahendite kasutamist hüdroloogilise süsteemi jaoks. Kursus koosneb kahest moodulist:
MOODUL1: Hüdraulika
MOODUL2: Hüdromeetria
Kursuse läbimisel lahendatakse ülesandeid ja selgitatakse insenertarkvara kasutamise võimalusi. Kursusel esitatud materjalide põhjal on koostatud kontrolltööde ülesanded, iseseisvatöö ülesanded ja hüdraulika praktikumi tööjuhend. Kursusel on oluline osa iseseisvalt õppematerjalide läbitöötamisel. Iseseisvat tööd eeldavad moodulid läbitakse osaliselt õppejõu juhendamisel.
brief description of the course in English
Subject explains the usage of hydraulic formulae in the calculus of pressurized flow, free-surface flow and infiltration flow. Numerical and statistical methods are used to solve the drainage problems of surface water, groundwater seepage and groundwater. The hydrometric measurements and corresponding measuring instruments are introduced for the hydrological system. The course consists of two modules:
MODULE1: Hydraulics
MODULE2: Hydrometrics
Upon completion of the course, the tasks are solved, the corresponding computational methods are used and the engineering software possibilities are demonstrated. Course materials submitted are drawn up on the basis of the control of work, independent work assignments and the laboratory guidance of flow hydraulics. In the course an important part of the learning process includes elaboration of their own learning materials. Independent work requiring modules are passed partly under supervision.
type of assessment in Estonian
Eksam on kirjalik ja koosneb ülesande vormis valikvastustega testist. Valitud vastust peab kirjalikult põhjendama. Vajadusel esitatakse lisaküsimusi.
type of assessment in English
The written exam that consists of a tasks in the form of a multiple choice test. Selected response must be justified in written form. If necessary, additional questions are included.
independent study in Estonian
Kursuse läbimisel lahendatakse iseseisvalt ülesandeid ja kasutatakse numbrilisi arvutusmeetodeid, et selgitada insenertarkvara kasutamise võimalusi. Kursusel esitatud materjalide põhjal on koostatud kontrolltööde ettevalmistuse ülesanded, iseseisvatöö ülesanded ja hüdraulika praktikumi tööd. Kursusel on oluline osa iseseisvalt õppematerjalide läbitöötamisel. Iseseisvat tööd eeldavad moodulid läbitakse osaliselt õppejõu juhendamisel.
independent study in English
Upon completion of the course, the tasks are solved independently, the corresponding computational methods are used to demonstrate the engineering software possibilities. Course materials submitted are drawn up on the basis of the control of work for preparation, independent work assignments and the laboratory works of flow hydraulics. In the course an important part of the learning process includes elaboration of their own learning materials. Independent work requiring modules are passed partly under supervision.
