Aine eesmärk on arendada üliõpilaste loovust ja anda oskus lahendada toodete projekteerimisel ning valmistamisel tekkivaid probleeme, arvestades riski- ja ohutustehnika faktoreid. Koostöö ettevõtetega ja nendega seotud projektide realiseerimine.

Probleemilahenduse osatähtsus inseneritöös ja tootearenduses. Inseneriprobleemid. Probleemi sõnastamine. Ülesande püstitus. Lõplik formuleerimine. Probleemilahenduse meetodid. Keskkonnaergonoomika ja töökohtade ergonoomika. Riskihindamise meetodid. Masinate riski hindamise ja ohutuse põhimõtted. Toote projekteerimine, valmistustehnoloogia projekteerimine. Praktiline tootearendusprotsess. Prototüübi valmistamine ja katsetamine.
