Õppeaine eesmärgiks on anda üliõpilasele vajalikud teadmised ja oskused toote või tootepere jaoks sobiva tootmistehnoloogia ja seadmete valikuks, arvestades tootmismahtu, nomenklatuuri ja tehnoloogilisi võimalusi.

The aim of the course is to give students appropriate knowledge and skills for selection of production technology and equipment for current product considering production volume, nomenclature and technological capabilities.

Õppeaine edukalt läbinud üliõpilane:
- oskab kavandada tootmissüsteeme vastavalt toote funktsionaalsele, parameetrilisele ja tehnoloogilisele kirjeldusele;
- oskab tootmistüüpi valida, luua tootmiseks sobiv struktuur ja kontseptsioon;
- oskab valida tootmiseks vajalikud seadmed ning leida nende paigutuseks optimaalne lahenduse;
- oskab eristada põhi- ja tugiprotsesse ja rakendada protsessikeskset juhtimist;
- oskab valida tootmiseks sobivad mõõdikud ja kvaliteedi tagamise meetmed;
- oskab hallata tellimuste käsitlemise protsessi;
- oskab tootmisprotsesse planeerida ja kontrollida.
