1. Knows the organizational system of Estonian road and street maintenance management
2. Knows causes and mechanism of development of different defects in road structure and based on that can choose the right repair method
3. Knows the requirements established to the road conditions in summer
4. Knows appropriate summer maintenance techniques for different pavement types and knows when and how they have to be implemented
5. Knows the requirements established to the road condition in winter
6. Knows different winter maintenance techniques for snow and ice control and knows when and how they have to be implemented

Tee korrashoiu korraldus läbi aegade. Tee korrashoiu üldpõhimõtted. Eesti tänava- maanteehoolduse süsteem. Tee seisukorda mõjutavad tegurid. Seisukorra hindamise kriteeriumid, tee suvised ja talvised seisundi nõuded. Tee seisukorra jälgimine: liiklusloendus, tasasus, haardetegur, kandevõime, vigastused. Teeregister.
Teede suvihoole: Tee maa-ala hooldus. Mullete ja süvendite hooldus. Kruus- ja killustikkatete hooldus. Asfaltkatete hooldus. Pindamine. Betoonkatete hooldus.
Teede talihoole: Teede tuisuohtlikkus, kaitse kinni tuiskamise eest. Aktiivse lumetõrje korraldus. Libedustõrje: libeduse tekkimine, tõrje puistematerjalidega, keemiline ja mehhaaniline tõrje. Keemiliste vahendite keskkonnakahjulikkus. Libedustõrjematerjalide laod. Jääteed. Teede kevadised hooldustööd.
Harjutused: soola veelahuse valmistamiseks vajaliku soolakoguse arvutus, libedustõrjeks vajaliku helvessoola koguse arvutus, jäätee kandevõime arvutus.
Ainetöö: Talihoolde (lume- ja libedustõrje) mehhanismide vajaduse arvutus, mehhanismide paigutus teedevõrgul. Libedustõrjematerjalide koguse valik. Libedustõrjematerjalide laod. Talihoolduse taseme valik, tee seisundi nõutav tase ja hooldustsüklite kestused.

Organization of road maintenance - a historical overview. Basic principles of road maintenance. Estonian system of street and road maintenance today. Parameters affecting the road condition. Monitoring of road condition: traffic count, evenness, friction index, bearing capacity, defects. Road data base.
Summer maintenance: Maintenance of road territory. Maintenance of road embankment. Maintenance of gravel roads. Maintenance asphalt pavements. Surface dressing. Maintenance of concrete pavements.
Winter maintenance: Blizzard riskiness of roads, preventive methods against blizzard. Active maintenance: deicing and snowplowing. Deicing activities: formation of slipperiness, use of abrasive materials, chemical de-icing reagents and mechanical removal of slipperiness. Environmental harm caused by deicing agents. Storages of abrasive materials and deicing reagents. Ice roads. Spring maintenance: low bearing capacity of roads.
Exercises: calculation of salt amount for production of the deicing water solution, calculation of flake salt amount for deicing, calculation of the bearing capacity of the ice road.
Course paper: Estimation of number of needed snow removal and deicing equipment, position/location of equipment on road network. Calculation of quantities of abrasive materials and deicing reagents. Winter maintenance service level requirements and implementation times.
