Aine eesmärk on anda ülevaade IT laiemast ühiskondlikust taustast ning vastastikusest mõjust ühiskonnaelu teiste sfääridega (seadusandlus, haridus, teadus jpm - n-ö "suure pildi" tajumine). Lisaks laia profiiliga üldteadmistele on eesmärk parandada ka eneseväljendusoskust.

The aim of this course is to provide a 'big picture' overview of the social background of information technology as well as its mutual interaction with other spheres of society (legislation, education, government etc). In addition, a secondary goal is to improve the self-expression (both oral and written) skills of participants.

Üliõpilane:
- mõistab kursuse teemasid, oskab nende osas kaasa mõelda/rääkida ja neid eksamil esitada;
- koostab kirjaliku töö enda valitud ainekohasel teemal ning kannab selle seminaris ette;
- koostab retsensiooni ühe kaasüliõpilase töö kohta, soovi korral ka 1-2 ainekohase raamatu kohta;
- suudab kirjutada lühikesi analüütilisi tekste erinevatel ainega seotud teemadel ning töötada
läbi selleks vajalikku materjali.

The student:
- understands the topics of the course, is able to follow and discuss the topics as well as present them at the exam;
- writes a paper about a course topic and presents it at a seminar;
- writes a review on a peer's paper and optionally on 1-2 course-related books;
- is able to write short analytical texts about course topics to a weblog, using relevant written sources.
