Aine eesmärgiks on anda tudengitele võimalus rakendada varem õpitud teadmisi biomeditsiinitehnika valdkonnas ühe suurema praktilise projekti elluviimise käigus. Projekt annab mitme kuu vältel grupiga ühise eesmärgi nimel tegutsedes tudengitele praktilise töö ja grupitöö kogemuse biomeditsiinitehnika teemalise ülesande lahendamisel. Muuhulgas annab aine tudengitele kogemuse läbiviidava töö tehnilises dokumenteerimises.

The aim of the course is to give students the opportunity to apply the previously acquired knowledge in the field of biomedical engineering in the course of one major practical project implementation. Project gives to the students the experience of practical and group work over a period of several months in order to act in the name of a common goal to solve the task in the biomedical engineering field. In addition the course gives to the students the experience in compilation of technical documentation of the work being done.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- oskab töötada koos grupiga ühise eesmärgi nimel;
- kasutab oma õpitud teoreetilisi teadmisi reaal-elulises probleemi lahendamise situatsioonis;
- lahendab probleeme mehaanika, elektroonika ja signaalitöötlusvaldkonnast;
- prognoosib oma otsuste ja tegude tagajärgi tehnoloogia arenduse projekti raames;
- teeb järeldusi projekti raames tehtud vigadest ning korraldab töö vastavalt ümber eesmärgi saavutamiseks;
- analüüsib ja oskab dokumenteerida oma tehtud tööd ja saadud teadmisi ning mõistab selle vajalikkust grupitöö projekti raames.

After completing the course the student:
- has the ability to work together with a group for a common goal;
- can use his previously aquired theoretical knowledge in a real-life problem solving situation;
- solves problems in the field of mechanics, electronics and signal processing;
- prognoses the consequences of his decisions and actions in the framework of the technology development project;
- makes conclusions about the mistakes made in the project and organizes the work accordingly in order to achieve the goal;
- analyzes and can document the completed work and aquired knowledges and understands its necessity in the framework of the group work project.

Meeskonna projektitöö on planeeritud läbi viia ühe semestri jooksul, mille käigus tuleb meeskondadesse jagatud tudengitel ära lahendada reaalne biomeditsiinitehnoloogia valdkonnast tulenev probleem tervise jälgimiseks (nt vererõhu mõõtmine, vere hapnikusisalduse määramine jne.). Meeskonda juhendatakse töötama ühise eesmärgi nimel, dokumenteerima projekti arengut ning jäädvustama oma isiklikku panust projekti. Töö tulemuseks on töötav prototüüp, mille valmistamiseks on meeskonnal vaja lahendada erinevaid insenertehnilisi ülesandeid, mehaanika, elektroonika ja signaalitöötlusvaldkonnast. Prototüübi valmimisse peavad olema andnud panuse kõik meeskonna liikmed. Aine läbimisel on suur rõhk iseseisva töö tegemisel ja eeldab tudengite poolt initsiatiivi ning loovat lähenemist probleemi lahendamisel.

Team project work is planned to be conducted within one semester, in which students within teams must be able to overcome the real health surveillance problem of the biomedical engineering field (e.g. measurement of blood pressure, determination of blood oxygen levels etc.). The team is instructed to work towards a common goal, to develop a documentation about project progression, and to capture their personal contribution to the project. The work results is a working prototype, which requires from the team to solve various engineering tasks in mechanics, electronics, and signal processing. All team members must have made a contribution to the prototype. By passing the subject, a great deal of emphasis is placed on independent work and requires students to take the initiative and creative approach to solving the problem.
