Üliõpilane:
- teab ja oskab kirjeldada piltdiagnostilist uuringuprotsessi, kujutise saamise printsiipi- ja kuvasüsteemi üldiselt.;
- teab ja oskab kirjeldada erinevaid kujutise saamise meetodeid radioloogias, oskab klassifitseerida erinevaid kujutise saamise meetodeid, teab nende rakendusvaldkondi meditsiinis, teab erinevate meetodite eeliseid ja puuduseid;
- teab, oskab kirjeldada ja mõistab kujutise kvaliteeti ja kuvasüsteemi kvaliteeti iseloomustavaid suuruseid ja karakteristikuid;
- teab ja oskab kirjeldada füüsikalisi printsiipe, milledel piltdiagnostilise kujutise saamise meetodid põhinevad. Teab füüsikalisi suuruseid ja nende füüsikaliste suuruste mõõtühikuid nende füüsikaliste printsiipide kirjeldamisel;
- oskab kirjeldada radioloogiaseadmete tööpõhimõtet, teab nende seadmete peamisi parameetreid, oskab seostada neid parameetreid kujutise kvaliteedi ja patsiendi ohutuse kriteeriumitega, teab ja oskab kasutada vastavat terminoloogiat;
- teab ja oskab kirjeldada kujutise retseptoreid, digitaalset kujutise arhiveerimise ja kommunikatsiooni süsteemi, kujutise visualiseerimise ja analüüsivahendeid.

Student:
- knows and is able to describe the process of imaging diagnostics, the general principle of imaging and the imaging system generally;
- knows and is able to describe generally imaging methods in use in modern medical radiology. Is able to specify range of use of the different imaging methods in medicine. Is able to point out advantages and disadvantages of different imaging methods;
- knows, understand and is able to describe the major parameters and characteristics of image quality and imaging systems;
- knows and is able to describe physical principles of the imaging methods. Knows and is able to use physical measures and units of the physical measures and terminology in the descriptions;
- knows, understand and is able to describe working principles and architecture of different imaging modalities, knows major characteristics of the imaging modalities. Knows relations of the characteristics, image quality and patient safety criterions. Knows and is able to use the terminology;
- knows and is able to describe imaging receptors, digital picture and archiving system (PACS) and image visualisation equipments. Has knowledge of architecture, materials, working principles and standards of the imaging receptors, PACS and image visualisation equipments.

Meditsiinilise pildidiagnostika eesmärgid ja võimalused. Röntgendiagnostika, ultraheli, magnetresonantstomograafia, kompuutertomograafia teooria ja füüsikalised alused. Piltdiagnostika seadmete tööpõhimõtted. Ultraheli: ultraheli andurite tööpõhimõte, mõõtemeetodid, verevoolu mõõtmised, 3D ultraheli. Röntgendiagnostika: röntgenkiirguse allikad, kujutise detekteerimine erinevatel infokandjatel, digitaalsüsteemid, mammograafia, kvaliteetkontrolli põhimõtted. Kompuutertomograafia: andmekogumis meetodid ja geomeetria, rekonstruktsioon, artefaktid. Magnetresonantstomograafia: tööpõhimõte, skaneerimismeetodid ja parameetrid, kujutise rekonstruktsioon. Kujutise kvaliteet. Patsiendi ja personali ohutus.

Aim and scope of medical imaging.Theory and physical principles of X-ray diagnostics, ultrasound, magnetic resonance tomography, computed tomography and nuclear diagnostics. Working principles of imaging equipment. Ultrasound, transducers, measurements methods, flow measurements, 3D imaging, X-ray diagnostics: x-ray sources, different media types for x-ray detection, digital x-ray systems, mammography, quality assurance principles. Computed tomography: scan methods and geometry, image reconstruction and artefacts. Magnetic resonance Imaging: working principle, scan methods and parameters, image reconstruction and artifacts. Image quality. Patient and personal safety.
