Aine eesmärk on anda ülevaade bioloogilistes kudedes aset leidvatest elektrilistest, elektromagnetilistest ja magnetilistest protsessidest ning tutvustada nende nähtustega seotud signaalide registreerimise meetodeid.

The aim of this course is to give an overview of the electrical, electromagnetic and magnetic processes taking place in biological tissues and to introduce the methods of recording the signals related to these phenomena.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- selgitab bioelektromagnetismi kontseptsiooni põhialuseid;
- kirjeldab asjakohaselt närvi- ja lihaskoe rakumembraanide ja ioonkanalite ehitust, transmembraanseid potentsiaale ning erutuse levimist kudedes;
- eristab peamisi meetodeid ning meditsiinivaldkondades kasutatavate seadmete tööpõhimõtteid organismi elektriliste ja magnetiliste protsesside registreerimiseks ja/või kuvamiseks;
- võrdleb ja analüüsib erinevaid bioloogiliste kudede elektromagnetiliste omaduste mõjutamise meetodeid;
- rakendab signaalide registreerimise põhimõtteid EKG ja EEG salvestamisel;
- väljendab end selgelt ja asjakohaselt bioelektromagnetisimiga seotud teemadel nii suuliselt kui ka kirjalikult.

After completing this course the student:
- explains the basics of the concept of bioelectromagnetism;
- adequately describes the structure of cell membranes and ion channels in nerve and muscle tissue, transmembrane potentials and tissue proliferation;
- distinguishes between the main methods and the working principles of devices used in the medical field for recording and / or displaying the body's electrical and magnetic processes;
- compares and analyzes different methods of influencing the electromagnetic properties of biological tissues;
- applies the principles of signal recording while recording ECG and EEG;
- expresses himself or herself clearly and appropriately on issues related to bioelectromagnetism, both orally and in writing.

Aine loengutes antakse ülevaade järgmistest teemadest:
bioloogiliste kudede elektriliste ja magnetilistest nähtuste olemus; rakumembraani ehitus; ioonkanalite liigid ja funktsioon; rakumembraanide rahuolekupotentsiaali ja aktsioonipotentsiaali olemus; erutuse levimine kudedes; südame elektriline aktivatsioon; ajukoore bioelektriline aktiivsus; peamised meetodid ja meditsiiniseadmed organismi elektriliste ja magnetiliste protsesside registreerimiseks ja/või kuvamiseks (elektrokardiograafia, elektroentsefalograafia, polüsomnograafia, neurograafia, magnetresonantstomograafia, jt) ning mõjutamiseks (südame elektriline stimulatsioon, defibrillatsioon, aju elekterimpulssravi, jt); elektrokardiograafilise (EKG) ja elektroentsefalograafilise (EEG) signaali tekkimise füsioloogilised alused ja registreerimise põhimõtted.
Praktilised oskused EEG ja EKG salvestamisest antakse labori-praktikumides.
brief description of the course in English
The lectures of the subject give an overview of the following topics: the nature of the electrical and magnetic phenomena of biological tissues; cell membrane construction; types and function of ion channels; the nature of the resting potential and action potential of cell membranes; tissue propagation; electrical activation of the heart; brain bioelectrical activity; main methods and medical devices for recording and / or displaying electrical and magnetic processes in the body (electrocardiography, electroencephalography, polysomnography, neurography, magnetic resonance imaging, etc.) and influencing the biological systems (electrical stimulation of the heart, defibrillation, pulse electrotherapy, etc.); physiological bases and principles of recording electrocardiographic (ECG) and electroencephalographic (EEG) signal generation.
Practical skills in recording an EEG and ECG are given in laboratory workshops.

Eksam. Eksamihinde moodustavad jooksva hindamise (kolme XR keskuse õppekäigu sooritus ning ettekande, kahe praktikumi, õppenädala testide hinded) ja lõpptesti koondhinne.
