course aims in Estonian
- Anda ülevaade tänapäeva keskkonna seisundist ning keskkonnaprobleemidest globaalsel ja regionaalsel tasandil: ressursid, saastamata ning saastatud keskkond, inimmõju väliskeskkonnale, saasteained ja nende päritolu ning mõju keskkonnale.
- Käsitleda süvendatult aineringlust biosfääris (vesi, süsinik, hapnik, lämmastik, väävel, mineraalained) ning materjalide liikumist aineringetes.
- Tutvustada keskkonnakaitse seadusandlikke aluseid ja majanduslikke mehhanisme ning keskkonnakaitse korralduse süsteemi.
- Anda põhiteadmisi materjalide tootmisega ja kasutamisega seotud keskkonnaprobleemide olemusest ning nende lahendamise võimalustest
- Anda teadmised keskkonnakaitse tehnoloogia kohta: õhupuhastusprotsessid ning nende rakendusalad, reovete puhastamine bioloogiliste ning füüsikalis-keemiliste meetoditega, jäätmekäitluse tehnoloogia.
- Õpetada säästva arengu põhiprintsiipe.

- To give an overview on the environmental state and environmental problems of a global nature and regional level: resources, unpolluted and polluted environment; anthropogenic impact on the environment; pollutants, their sources and effects.
- To consider in-depth cycles of matter in the biosphere (water, carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, minerals), and the circulation of materials in material cycles.
- To introduce environmental law principles, economic mechanisms and principals of environmental management practice.
- To provide a basic knowledge on the environmental problems associated with production and usage of materials and possible options to resolve the problems.
- To give a basic knowledge in environmental technology: air pollution prevention methods and their applicability, wastewater treatment by biological and physical-chemical methods, waste management practice.
- To teach the basic principles of the sustainable development .

Õppeaine positiivse tulemusega sooritanud üliõpilane:
- tunneb keskkonnakaitse probleemide olemust globaalsel ning regionaalsel tasemel;
- omab teadmisi materjalide tootmisega ja kasutamisega seotud keskkonnaprobleemide sisulisest olemusest;
- omab põhiteadmisi keskkonnakaitsetehnoloogiast (õhu- ja veepuhastusprotsessid ning jäätmekäitlus) ja oskab eriala ülesannete lahendamisel vastavaid meetodeid valida ja kasutada;
- omab põhiteadmisi keskkonnakaitse seaduste ja korralduse süsteemi kohta;
- tunneb säästva arengu põhiprintsiipe ja suudab neid analüüsida.

The student who has accomplished the course with a positive result:
- has knowledge on core of environmental problems of a global nature, and at the regional level;
- has a knowledge on the essentiality of environmental problems associated with production and usage of materials;
- has basic knowledge of environmental technology (air and water purification and waste management) and are able to choose the corresponding methods for solving specific problems;
- has basic knowledge on environmental law and the environmental management system;
- is familiar with principles of sustainable development and is able to analyze them.

Materjalid ja keskkond. Ülevaade keskkonna seisundist: ressursid, saastamata ning saastatud keskkond, inimmõju väliskeskkonnale, saasteained ja nende päritolu ning mõju keskkonnale. Aineringlus biosfääris (vesi, süsinik, hapnik, lämmastik, väävel, mineraalained) ning materjalide liikumine aineringetes. Aktuaalsed keskkonnakaitse globaalsed ja regionaalsed probleemid. Säästva arengu põhiprintsiibid. Reoainete ja materjalide keskkonnaomaduste hindamise meetodid. Keskkonna reostus, saasteained, piirnormid. Keskkonnakaitse seadusandlikud alused ja majanduslikud mehhanismid, keskkonnakaitse korralduse süsteem. Keskkonnakaitse ülesanded ja tegevused ettevõtte tasandil. Olelusringi hindamine. Õhu saasteained ja heitgaaside puhastamise meetodid. Veesaaste liigid, reovee puhastamise meetodid ja tehnoloogiad. Litosfääri kaitse, pinnase saneerimine. Jäätmekäitluse tehnoloogiad. Spetsiifiliste materjalide tootmisega ja kasutamisega seotud keskkonnakaitse probleemid.

Materials and the environment. Overview of the state of the environment: resources, polluted and unpolluted environment, humans impact on the environment; pollutants, their origins and environmental impact. Cycles of matter in the biosphere (water, carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, sulphur, minerals); material flows in cycles of matter. Current global and regional environmental problems. The basic principles of sustainable development. Pollutants and materials, assessment methods for their environmental properties. Environmental pollution, pollutants, and limits. Environment protection law, economic mechanisms for environmental protection, and environmental management system. Environmental tasks and activities at the enterprise level. Life Cycle Assessment. Air pollution and air pollution control technologies. Types of water pollution, wastewater treatment methods and technologies. Lithosphere protection and soil remediation. Solid waste engineering. Environmental problems associated with production and usage of specific materials.

- ettevalmistus kolmeks kontrolltööks ja eksamiks – 54 tundi.
