Aine eesmärk on anda ülevaade kivimite, setete ja vee geokeemiast, elementide geokeemilistest omadustest, geokeemilise uuringu põhiprintsiipidest ja kasutatavatest meetoditest ning omandada teadmised geoloogiliste proovide ettevalmistamiseks laborianalüüsiks ning keemiliste andmete interpreteerimiseks.

The aim of this course is to give an overview of the main principles and methods in the geochemistry of rocks, sediments and groundwater, and the geochemical principles of elements. Get the knowledge in preparation of geochemical samples and geochemical analyses and interpretation of compositional data.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- eristab ja seostab ning klassifitseerib geokeemia põhiprintsiipe ja valdab üldist terminoloogiat;
- eristab ja hindab keemiliste elementide omadusi;
- eristab ja hindab põhiliste kivimitüüpide ning keskkonna geokeemiat ja seoseid nende vahel;
- suudab kasutada geokeemilise modelleerimise meetodeid ja eristada elementide liikumise üldisi seaduspärasusi;
- eristab, hindab ja süstematiseerib sobilikke meetodeid üleskerkinud geokeemiliste ning geoloogiliste uuringuülesannete lahendamiseks;
- omab kriitilist mõtlemist ja analüüsivõimet geokeemiliste provide valikul ja ettevalmistamisel laborianalüüsiks;
- valdab geokeemia-alast kirjandust, käsiraamatute ja andmebaaside kasutamist, suhtub analüütiliselt vastavasse teaduskirjandusse;
- omab sünteesi- ja analüüsivõimet ning oskab hinnata kriitiliselt geokeemilist andmestikku ja selle usaldusväärsust.

Upon completing the course, the student:
- distinguishes, correlates, and classifies the basic principles of geochemistry and is proficient in general terminology;
- differentiates and evaluates the properties of chemical elements;
- identifies and assesses the geochemistry of primary rock types and the environment, as well as the relationships between them;
- is capable of using geochemical modeling methods and distinguishing general patterns of element movement;
- differentiates, evaluates, and systematizes appropriate methods to address emerging geochemical and geological research tasks;
- possesses critical thinking and analytical skills when selecting and preparing geochemical samples for laboratory analysis;
- is proficient in the use of geochemical literature, handbooks, and databases and approaches relevant scientific literature analytically;
- possesses synthesis and analytical abilities and can critically assess geochemical datasets and the reliability of geochemical data.

Keemiliste elementide omadused, keemilised ühendid ja geokeemiline klassifikatsioon. Geokeemilised süsteemid, elementide migratsioon, valitud elementide geokeemia. Magmade geokeemiline mitmekesisus, magma differentseerumise protsessid. Geokeemilised muutused kivimites, setetes ja vees. Geokeemiliste proovide võtmine ja ettevalmistamine laborianalüüsiks (röntgenfluorestsents-, induktiivselt seotud plasma aatomemissioon, mikroanalüüs jm). Analüüsitulemuste interpreteerimine ja hindamine.

Chemical elements, compounds, geochemical classification. Geochemical systems, element migration, general geochemistry of selected elements. Geochemical diversity of magmas, differentiation processes. Elemental changes in rocks, sediments, and groundwater. Sample selection and preparation for geochemical analysis (XRF, ICPMS, microprobe etc.). Interpretation and assessment of geochemical data.
