Õppeaine eesmärgiks on anda üliõpilasele teadmised tootmisprotsessi struktuurist ja põhimõistetest, kasutatavatest tehnoloogiatest ja seadmetest, toorikute ja toodete valmistamismeetoditest, lõiketöötlemisprotsessidest, lõikeriistadest, tehnoloogiavahenditest ja tootmisseadmetest ning nende baasil moodustatud tootmissüsteemidest.

The goal is to give a students a knowledge of structure and fundamental concept of production process, methods and machines to produce workpieces and product, tools, machines, manufacturing systems and machining processes.

- teab tootmisprotsessi põhimõisteid ja struktuuri;
- tunneb lõikeriistade tüüpe ja töötlemismeetodeid;
- tunneb vormimisprotsesse ja seadmeid;
- tunneb lehtmetalli töötlemise meetodeid ja seadmeid ning oskab arvutada töötlemiseks vajaminevaid jõude;
- tunneb tootmisseadmete ehitust ja oskab neid töötlemisprotsessidega siduda;
- oskab seadistada CNC seadmeid ja neid juhtida;
- oskab välja töötada rakiseid ja kasutada tööabinõusid;
- oskab toodete valmistamiseks valida õigeid tehnoloogiaid ja seadmeid;
- omab teadmisi tootmissüsteemidest ja nende projekteerimise põhimõtetest;
- omab teadmisi tootmise planeerimisest ja juhtimisest.

- knows forming protsesses and equipment;
- knows the sheet metal processing techniques and equipment , and be able to calculate the forces needed for processing;
- can set up CNC machines and control them;
- knows function of machine tools and is able to link them with machining processes;
- can describe and choose basic manufacturing methods for workpieces and products;
- can develop fixture and use clamping systems;
- be able to select rational technologies and machines for manufacturing products;
- have knowledges about production systems and their design principles;
- have knowledge about production planning and control.

Tootmisprotsess, struktuur ja põhimõisted. Lõikamise mõiste ja liigid. Metallide lõiketöötlemise alused. Lõikeriistade tüübid. Mehaanilised- , elektrilised ja keemilised ning termilised lõiketöötlusmeetodid. Metallide vormimisprotsessid ja seadmed. Lehtmetalli töötlemine ja seadmed. Plastide töötlemine ja seadmed. Prototüüpide kiirvalmistamise seadmed. Erosioontöötlemise seadmed. Laser,- plasma- ja veejoaga töötlemise seadmed. Abrasiivtöötlemine ja seadmed. Töötlemiskeskused. Treimiskeskused. Töötlemisseadmete tööabinõud ja rakised. Mõõteseadmed. CNC seadmete juhtsüsteemid. Tootmissüsteemid. Automaatliinid, paindtootmissüsteemid. Tootmise planeerimine ja juhtimine.

Manufacturing process, structure and basic concept. Physics of metal cutting process. Cutting tools. Cutting tools materials and basics of selection. Mechanical, electrical, chemical and thermal cutting processes. Machine tools, classification. Rolling mills. Forging machines. Drawing and extrusion equipment of metals. Equipment of sheet metal forming. Forming and shaping equipment of plastics. Rapid prototyping. Advanced machining processes and equipment. Cutting tools to produce round and various shapes. Grinding and finishing machines. Machining centers. Fixtures. Measuring machines. Manufacturing systems. Lean and flexible manufacturing systems. Control systems of machines. Production planning and control.

Teadmiste kontroll toimub semestri jooksul sooritatud 3 testi alusel. Iga test annab 30 punkti. Praktikumidest osavõtt ja aruannete esitamine annab 10 punkti. Praktikumidest osavõtt on eelduseks lõpphinde saamiseks. Lõpphinne kujuneb praktikumide ja testidest saadud punktide alusel. Testide ebaõnnestumise korral on hinnet võimalik parandada eksamil.

Knowledge control is carried out during the semester with 3 tests. Each test provides 30 points. Participation in practicals and reporting gives 10 points. Participation in practicals is a prerequisite to obtain the final score . Final grade will form out by tests points and practical points. If tests fails, the grade could be improved in exam.

Iseseisva tööna on ette nähtud e-õppe vormis kursuse materjalide läbitöötamine, praktikumi aruannete tegemine ja testide sooritamine.
