Kursuse eesmärk on anda ülevaade kõige enam kasutatavatest kaasaegsetest organisatsiooni- ja juhtimisteooriatest, sealhulgas organisatsiooni arendamise ja juhtimise seisukohalt olulistest teooriatest. Praktiline õpiväljund doktorantidele on arusaamine, kuidas erinevad teooriad on nende doktoriõppe jaoks sobivad, kõige kasulikumate teooriate valimine ja nende analüüs oma õpingute kontekstis.

The aim of the course is to provide an overview of the most widely used contemporary organizational and management theories, including those relevant for organisation development and management. The practical outcome for doctoral students would be understanding how appropriate different theories are for their doctoral studies, selecting the most beneficial ones and analysing them in the context of their studies.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- määratleb, kirjeldab ja võrdleb erinevaid organisatsiooni- ja juhtimisteooriaid;
- teab, kuidas neid teooriaid erinevates kontekstipõhistes olukordades kasutada;
- planeerib, tutvustab ja viib läbi juhtimisalaseid uuringuid;
- arutleb teaduslikul tasemel, koostab põhjalikke teooriaid ja tegutseb teiste ideede kriitilise hindajana.

After completing this course, the student:
- identifies, describes and compares different organizational and management theories;
- is familiar with how to use these theories in different contextual situations;
- plans, introduces and conducts management research;

Kursus jaguneb mitmeks osaks, mis hõlmab teadusfilosoofiat, "Mis on teooria?", ülevaadet erinevatest teooriatest (lõplik valik sõltub osalejatest) (nt institutsionaalne, tööstuslik organisatsioon, hädaolukorra lahendamine, ressursipõhine vaade, dünaamilised võimekused, tehingukulud, organisatsiooniline õppimine, võrgustik, süsteemiteooria) ja teooriate kombinatsiooni erinevate nähtuste selgitamiseks (st erinevate doktoritööde vaatenurkasid).
brief description of the course in English
The course is divided into several parts covering Philosophy of Science, "What is a theory?", an overview of different theories (the final selection depends on the participants) (e.g. institutional, industrial organization, contingency, resource-based view, dynamic capabilities, transaction cost economics, organizational learning, network, system theory) and a combination of theories to explain different phenomena (i.e., perspectives of different doctoral thesis).
