Õppeaine eesmärk on varustada üliõpilane juhtimisprintsiipide alaste teadmistega ja praktiliste oskustega, mis on olulised eduka kaevandusettevõte haldamiseks. Lisaks on kursuses rida spetsiaalse fookusega teemasid, mis seostuvad riskide ja ohutuse, majandusliku arengu, optimaalse ressursikasutuse, keskkonna ja kogukondadega.

This course aims to equip the student with an appreciation of management principles and practices vital to a mine manager's successful running of a mining enterprise. In addition, there will be a number of topics of special focus relating to risk and safety, economic development, optimum resource utilisation, environment and community.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- mõtestab kaevanduse haldamist tervikliku protsessina;
- identifitseerib kaevandusprojektidepõhilised huvigruppe ja nende vajadusi;
- demonstreerib arusaamist ärijuhtimise teooriast ja protsessidest;
- tunneb ära faktoreid, mis motiveerivad inimeste käitumist kaevanduse töökeskkondades;
- rakendab kaevanduste tulemuslikkuse mõõdikuid;
- demonstreerib arusaama kaevandamist reguleerivast seadusandlusest (tööohutus, kaevandamisõigused jne);
- tunneb ära ja hindab faktoreid, mis mõjutavad ohutus- ja riskijuhtimist spetsiifilistes kaevandamisega seotud protsessides;
- uurib kaevandamisega seotud tõsiste intsidentide põhjusi ja tagajärgi ning pakub välja strateegiaid riskijuhtimiseks;
- demonstreerib arusaama erisustest kaevanduste haldamisel alltöövõtjana ning omaniku opereeritavatest kaevandustes;
- demonstreerib meeskonnatöö oskusi;
- demonstreerib heatasemelist suulist ja kirjalikku väljendusoskust.

At the conclusion of this course, students:
- recognise that mine management is a holistic process;
- identify the key stakeholders in a mining project and their respective needs;
- demonstrate an awareness of management theory and processes;
- recognise the factors that motivate people’s behaviour in the mine working environment (role play/debate);
- apply the principal performance measures used in mine management;
- demonstrate an awareness of mining law (safety, mining leases etc.);
- recognise and appraise the factors contributing to safety and risk management issues in specific mining-related processes;
- investigate the causes and consequences of mining-related serious incidents and propose risk management strategies;
- demonstrate an awareness of contractor management (v. owner-operated) issues;
- demonstrate team skills;
- demonstrate advanced written and oral communication skills.

Kursus annab ülevaate mäendusettevõtete haldamise printsiipidest ja koosneb neljast moodulist: (1) seadusandlus, ohutus ja riskide haldamine; (2) mäemajandus ja mäendusettevõtte majandamine; (3) haldamise printsiibid ja (4) mäetööde korraldamine.

The course consists of four modules: (1) mining law, safety and risk management; (2) minerals economics and mine cost structure; (3) management fundamentals and (4) mine operations management.
