VERSION SPECIFIC DATA
course aims in Estonian
Luua tingimused teadmiste omandamiseks atmosfääri ja mere füüsikaliste protsesside teoreetilistest kontseptsioonidest ja matemaatilistest meetoditest nende protsesside kirjeldamisel.
course aims in English
The aim of the course is to create opportunities to get knowledge on the physical processes in the ocean and atmospheres, what is theory behind and how these processes are described using mathematical methods.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
Aine läbinud üliõpilane kasutab mere ja atmosfääri protsesside kirjeldamiseks ja seletamiseks matemaatilisi meetodeid.
learning outcomes in the course in Eng.
After completing this course the student uses mathematical methods for description and explanation of the physical processes in the ocean and atmosphere.
brief description of the course in Estonian
Kursus keskendub kesksete atmosfääri ja ookeani füüsikaliste protsesside füüsikalisele ja matemaatilisele esitamisele. Loengutes käsitletakse globaalseid ja regionaalseid füüsikalisi protsesse, pikki laineid, fronte ja sünoptilisi keeriseid, turbulentsi ja segunemist. Antakse ülevaade valitud kaldalähedastest ja estuaarsetest protsessidest, jää dünaamikast, polaar- ja troopilise okeanograafia protsessidest. Atmosfääri füüsikalistest protsessidest käsitletakse soojusvahetuse, konvektsiooni, pilvede füüsika, alumise piirikihi, tsüklonite ja orkaanide seotud peamisi protsesse.
brief description of the course in English
The course focuses on the understanding of both the physical and the mathematical description of central atmospheric and oceanographic processes. We study global and basin scale/regional processes, long waves, fronts and synoptic eddies, turbulence and mixing. Selected topics on coastal and estuarine processes, ice dynamics, polar and tropical oceanography are included. In the atmosphere, the selected physical processes associated with radiative transfer, convection, clouds, surface boundary layer, as well as wave cyclones and hurricanes are covered.

independent study in Estonian
Üliõpilane lahendab teemadega seotud ülesandeid ja valmistab ette seminari ettekande õppejõu poolt etteantud teemal. Üliõpilane loeb teemadega seotud õppejõu valitud tänapäevaseid teadusartikleid ja teeb neist lühikokkuvõtte.
independent study in English
A student will solves exercises on related topics and prepares a seminar on the topic selected by lecturer. A student will read advanced scientific papers predefined by lecturer and prepaes short summaries
