Aine eesmärk on õpetada teadmisi ja oskusi geofüüsikalisest andmetöötlusest ning selleks kasutatavatest meetoditest.
Eesmärgi täitmiseks:
- tutvustada ja meelde tuletada andmetöötluse ja matemaatilise statistika põhimõtteid;
- tutvustada programmeerimise põhitõdesid ja funktsioone;
- tutvustada erinevaid andmete salvestamise ja hoidmise formaate;
- teostada praktilisi ülesandeid, kasutades programeerimist ning suurandmete töötlemist.

The aim of this course is to teach the principles of geophysical data analysis and different analysis methods.
In order to meet the aim, the students:
- are reminded about the principles of data analysis and mathematical statistics;
- are introduced to principles of programming and different functions and methods applicable to data analysis;
- are introduced to different data formats;
- will perform data analysis using programming and methods applicable to big data.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- oskab töötada eri formaadis andmetega ja kasutada andmetöötluseks vajalikke statistilisi ning matemaatilisi meetodeid;
- analüüsib geofüüsikalisi parameetreid kasutades programmeerimist ja koostab vajalikke funktsioone ning meetodeid andmetöötluseks;
- rakendab nii spektraalanalüüsi meetodeid kui ka erinevaid interpolatsioonimeetodeid;
- esitab graafiliselt ja interpreteerib tulemusi laialdaselt kasutatud graafikutelt (tulpdiagrammid, aegread, kaardid jne).

After completing this course, the student:
- is able to work with data in different formats and use different statistical and mathematical methods for data analysis;
- analyzes geophysical parameters using programming and write different methods and functions for data analysis;
- interpolates data and uses spectral analysis;
- produces different graphs for presenting results but also interprets different plots commonly used in geophysical data analysis.

The statistical variability of geophysical parameters. Interpolation methods. Statistical estimates and hypothesies. Probability distribution and density functions. An extreme value analysis of geophysical parameters. Time-series analysis. Covariation- and spectral analysis. Principal component analysis.
