VERSION SPECIFIC DATA
course aims in Estonian
Õppeaine eesmärk on:
- anda terviklik ülevaade erinevatest taastuvenergia ressurssidest: tuul, päike, geotermaalenergia merel ja maal, hüdroenergia, biokütused, laine, tõus-mõõn;
- anda oskus kriitiliselt hinnata erinevate taastuvenergia ressursside kasutamise potentsiaali lähtudes asukohast (Eesti vs. muu maailm), tehnoloogia küpsusastemest (tuulepargid, päikesepargid, pumphüdroakumulatsiooni jaamad), toetavast infrastruktuurist (mikrovõrgud, salvestustehnoloogiad) ja ressursi/investeeringu vajadusest (kust tuleb toore);
- anda oskus võrrelda/analüüsida erinevate energia ressursside (taastuv vs. fossiilne vs. tuuma-) kasutamisega kaasnevaid mõjusid majandusele ja ökosüsteemile/keskkonnale.
course aims in English
The aim of this course is to:
- provide a comprehensive overview of different renewable energy resources: wind, sun, geothermal energy at sea and on land, hydropower, biofuels, waves, and tides;
- provide the skills for critical analysis of the potential use of different renewable energy resources while considering the location (Estonia vs. global trends), technology maturity level (wind farms, solar parks, pumped-storage hydroelectricity), supporting infrastructure (microgrids, storage technologies) and resource/investment requirements (source of raw materials);
- provide the ability to compare and analyze the impact of using different energy resources (renewable vs. fossil vs. nuclear) on the economy and the ecosystem/environment.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- annab ülevaate taastuvenergia ressurssidest;
- tunneb erinevate taastuvate energiaallikate energia muundamise tehnoloogiate põhimõtteid;
- hindab taastuvenergia ressursside kasutamise potentsiaali ning analüüsib nende kasutamise eeliseid ja puuduseid;
- võrdleb ja arutleb taastuva, fossiilse ning tuumaenergia kasutamise mõjusid majandusele ja keskkonnale.
learning outcomes in the course in Eng.
After completing this course the student:
- provides an overview of renewable energy resources;
- knows the principles of energy conversion technologies of various renewable energy sources;
- evaluates the potential of using renewable energy resources and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of their use;
- compares and discusses the economic and environmental impacts related to exploitation of renewable, fossil and nuclear energy.
brief description of the course in Estonian
Loengute käigus antakse ülevaade erinevatest taastuvenergia ressurssidest, nende kasutamisest ja kaasnevatest mõjudest: tuul, päike, geotermaalenergia merel ja maal, hüdroenergia, biokütused, laine, tõus-mõõn jne. Loenguid viivad läbi erialaeksperdid ettevõtlusest, riigiasutustest ja ülikoolist.
Seminarides arutletakse erinevate taastuvenergia ressursside kasutamise võimaluste üle. Iga üliõpilane valmistab teaduskirjanduse põhjal ettekande, mis on aluseks seminari diskussioonile.
Harjutustundides teostatakse arvutused taastuvenergia ressursi hindamiseks (2 iseseisvat tööd).
brief description of the course in English
Lecture part of the course provides an overview of various renewable energy resources, their exploitation potential and accompanying impacts. The focus is on the following energy resources: wind, sun, geothermal energy at sea and on land, hydropower, biofuels, waves, tides, etc. Lectures are given by experts from private sector, state authorities and university.
During the seminars the possibilities of using different renewable energy resources are discussed. Based on scientific literature each student prepares a presentation, which is the “seed” for the seminar discussion.
As part of the practical work the renewable energy resource assessments/computations are performed (2 independent assignments).
type of assessment in Estonian
Kursus lõppeb kirjaliku eksamiga, mis annab 70% lõpphindest. Eksami eeldus on seminariettekanne ja iseseisvate tööde (2 tk) sooritamine, mis moodustavad 30% lõpphindest.
type of assessment in English
The course ends with a written exam accounting for 70% of the final grade. The prerequisite for the exam is successful completion of 2 independent assignments and a seminar presentation, which make up a total of 30% of the final grade.
independent study in Estonian
Teaduskirjanduse analüüs ja seminariettekande koostamine.
independent study in English
Analysis of scientific papers and preparation of seminar presentation.
