Kursuse eesmärk on anda teadmisi veereostusallikate, reostusainete toime ja reostuse vähendamise looduslike ja tehnoloogiliste meetodite kohta. Aines omandatakse teadmised reovee, selle omaduste, käitlemise ja puhastusmeetodite kohta, samuti reoveemuda ja sajuvee käitlemise ning kasutamise kohta.

The aim of the course is to enable the students to develop knowledge about water pollution sources, the effects of pollutants and natural and technological methods of pollution reduction. The subject acquires knowledge about wastewater, its properties, treatment and purification methods, as well as the treatment and use of sewage sludge and rainwater.

Kursuse eduka läbimise järel üliõpilane:
- tunneb veereostuse põhjuseid, toimet ja leevendamise meetodeid;
- omandab reoveekäitlemise põhitõed ja tunneb peamisi meetodeid;
- tunneb reoveesette käitlemise põhimõtteid ja oskab kasutada reoveesetet;
- tunneb looduslähedase reoveepuhastuse eeliseid ja puudusi.

Collection and discharge of wastewater. Mechanical purification of wastewater. Basics of biological treatment, appliances, calculations. Aeration of wastewater. Chemical purification. Post-treatment of wastewater. Small sewage treatment plants. Sludge, properties. Methods and appliance of sludge treatment. Utilization of sludge. Treatment of precipitation. Runoff of effluent to soil and water bodies. Natural treatment systems.
