To give knowledge about hydraulics, introduction of main equations in hydrostatics and hydrodynamics. Brief history of hydraulics.

Hüdrostaatika: Hüdrostaatiline surve ja sellest tekkivate jõudude arvutamine, kehade ujuvus. Hüdrodünaamika põhiteoreemid: vooluhulga pidevus, Bernoulli võrrand ja liikumishulga teoreem. Liini- ja kohalikud takistused. Torustike paralleel- ja järjestikühendus. Süsteemide arvutuse alused. Süsteemi takistustegur. Voolamine avadest ja jätkudest. Hüdrauliline löök. Hüdraulilise modelleerimise alused. Filtratsiooni ja põhjavee liikumise seaduspärasused. Pumpade valiku alused.

Hydrostatics. Fluid pressure and hydrostatic force on surfaces, buoyancy and floatation of bodies. Fundamentals of fluid flow: the equation of continuity, application of the Bernoulli theorem and the momentum equation. Friction factor and loss of head in pipes, minor head losses. Pipes in series and parallel. Pipe networks and modelling of complex hydraulic systems. Flow from orifices and nozzles. Water hammer. Dimensional analysis and hydraulic similitude. Seepage and movement of groundwater. Typical pumps and pump selection.
