Aine eesmärk on:
- arendada loogilist, analüütilist ja algoritmilist mõtlemist ning süsteemset lähenemist tüüpiliste inseneriülesannete lahendamiseks;
- anda baasteadmised inseneritöös vajaliku infotöötluse võtetest, meetoditest ja vahenditest, kujundada vastavad praktilised põhioskused, sh arendusvahendite kasutamisest inseneritöös vajalike rakenduste loomisel.

The aim of this course is to:
- develop logical, analytical, and algorithmic thinking and a systematic approach to solving typical engineering tasks;
- provide basic knowledge of the techniques, methods, and tools of information processing required in engineering;
- develop relevant basic practical skills, including the use of development tools in engineering applications.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- valib loogiliselt ja argumenteeritult inseneriülesannete lahendamiseks otstarbekaid meetodeid ja vahendeid, tunneb tarkvaravõimalusi põhitasemel, töötab neis tarkvarasüsteemides iseseisvalt ja rakendab neid efektiivselt tüüpiliste inseneriülesanneteks lahendamisel;
- on saanud ülevaate tabeltöötlusvahendite andmeanalüüsi ja andmete visualiseerimise võimalustest, teeb andmetabelitest päringuid;
- kasutab tabeliprogramme efektiivselt keskmise keerukusega rakenduste loomisel, kus käsitletakse omavahel seotud tabelite kogumeid.

After completing this course the student:
- chooses logically and argumentatively expedient methods and tools for solving engineering tasks, knows the software possibilities at the basic level, works independently in these software systems and applies them effectively in solving typical engineering tasks;
- has got an overview of capabilities of tabular processing tools for data analysis and data visualization, makes queries from data tables;
- uses table programs effectively to create medium-complexity applications that deal with interconnected sets of tables.

Käsitletakse andmeanalüüsi, -töötluse ja visualiseerimise põhivõtteid ja rakenduste loomise alused tüüpiliste inseneriülesannete lahendamisel ja kontekstis.

The main methods of data analysis, processing and visualization and the basics of creating applications in the solution and context of typical engineering tasks are discussed.

Kursus lõpeb arvestusega. Arvestuse tulemus fikseeritakse mitteeristuvas hindamissüsteemis (A/MA). Arvestuse saamiseks peavad olema sooritatud kõik kontrolltööd, esitatud ja aktsepteeritud kõik kodutööd ning tehtud kõik praktikumide harjutused ja ülesanded.

The course ends with a non-graded assessment. The result of the credit is recorded as Passed/Failed. To receive credit all tests must be executed, all homework assignments must be submitted and accepted, and all exercises and tasks of the workshops must be completed.

Praktikumi ajal lahendatakse osa ülesandeid iseseisva tööna. Koduse iseseisva töö sisu ja vormistus peavad vastama antud ülesande püstitusele, kodutöö esitatakse etteantud tähtajaks. Töö aktsepteeritakse, kui kõik ülesanded on lahendatud ja ükski lahendus ei sisalda olulisi vigu.
Mitteaktsepteeritud iseseisev töö tuleb parandada ja esitada uuesti.

The description of each of the problems is posted and the due date is communicated in the learning environment.The contents of homework should correspond to the problem description and homework should be handed in by the due date.
Homework, that is handed in on time, will be accepted, if the following holds:
- all the assignments have been solved
- none of the parts of the solution contain
important errors nor errors in principle;)
A homework that has not been accepted has
to be corrected and resubmitted.
