Anda süstemaatiline ülevaade biokahjustusi tekitavatest elusorgamismidest ja erinevate materjalide ning objektide biokahjustusprotsessidest.
Anda ülevaade tähtsamate tehnikas ja igapäevaelus kasutatavate materjalide koostisest, omadustest, struktuurist, valmistamisest ja kasutamisest, pöörates erilist tähelepanu koostise, struktuuri ja omaduste seosele.

To give overview of living organisms causing biological damages and processes of biological damages of different materials and objects.
To provide a review of the composition, structure, properties, as well as manufacture and use, the composition and structure - properties relationship being of special interest.

Õppeaine läbides üliõpilane:
- teab peamisi biokahjustajaid;
- tunneb peamistele biokahjustustele iseloomulikke tunnuseid;
- oskab kirjeldada biokahjustussituatsiooni ja tuletada sellest võimalikke tõrjemeetmeid;
- oskab eristada biokahjustusi teistest kahjustusliikidest.
- tunneb materjalide keemia põhimõisteid, materjalide liike, põhiomadusi ja nende uurimist, materjalide kasutamist, oskab leida kirjandusest ja internetist vajalikku infot.

- knows main biological damages.
- knows main characteristics of biological damages;
- describes situations of biological damages and derives prevention methods;
- differentiates biological damages from other damages;
- after taking this course the student knows principle concepts of the chemistry of materials, main categories of materials, their properties, study and use, is able to find useful info in manuals and Internet.

Analüüsitakse biokahjustuste tekitajaid ja biokahjustusprotsesse. Käsitletakse bioloogilisi ohutegureid konserveerimisel ja restaureerimisel ning bioloogiliste meetodite kasutamist kultuuripärandi säilitamisel.
Materjaliteadus ja materjalide keemia. Materjalide koostis, struktuur ja omadused. Liht- ja liitmaterjalid. Materjalide omaduste uurimine. uued ja perspektiivsed materjalid. Lahustid. Liimid ja värvid. Plastmassid. Klaas ja keraamika. Metallisulamid. Ehitusmaterjalid. Puit. Tselluloos ja paber. Ajaloolised viimistlusmaterjalid - krohvid, värvid.

Organisms causing biological damages and processes of biological damage are analysed. Biological danger factor at conservation and restoration. Usage of biological methods at cultural heritage preservation.
Science of materials and chemistry of materials. The composition, structure, and properties of materials. Simple and composite materials. The study of the properties of materials. Some new and perspective materials. Solvents. Adhesives and paints. Plastics. Glass and ceramics. Alloys. Building materials. Wood. Cellulose and paper. Historical finishing materials - paints and plasters.
