The aim of this course is to learn the main principles of international economics, and develop necessary skills for understanding conceptual and empirical issues in international economics.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- selgitab rahvusvahelise majanduse põhimõisteid, teooriaid ja nendevahelisi seoseid;
- analüüsib rahvusvahelise kaubavahetuse põhilisi mudeleid ning hindab nende eeldusi, rakendatavust ja empiirilist põhjendatust asjakohaste allikate põhjal;
- analüüsib väliskaubanduspoliitika põhiliste instrumentide mõju majandusele, ühiskonna heaolule ja erinevatele ühiskonnarühmadele ning võrdleb alternatiivsete poliitikavalikute tagajärgi;
- selgitab avatud majanduse rahvamajanduse arvepidamise ja maksebilansi põhimõtteid ning nendevahelisi seoseid;
- selgitab vahetuskursside kujunemist ning valuuta- ja rahaturu toimimist;
- analüüsib monetaar- ja fiskaalpoliitika mõju majandusele erinevate vahetuskursirežiimide korral ning põhjendab oma järeldusi majandusteoreetiliste käsitluste põhjal;
- analüüsib kriitiliselt rahvusvahelise majanduse teemadel esitatud seisukohti ning esitab ja põhjendab oma argumente.

After completing this course, the student:
- explains the key concepts and theories of international economics and the relationships between them;
- analyses the main models of international trade and evaluates their assumptions, applicability, and empirical validity based on relevant sources;
- analyses the effects of the main trade policy instruments on the economy, welfare of society, and different groups in society, and compares the consequences of alternative policy choices;
- explains the principles of national income accounting in an open economy and the balance of payments, and the relationships between them;
- explains the determination of exchange rates and the functioning of foreign exchange and money markets;
- analyses the effects of monetary and fiscal policy on the economy under different exchange rate regimes and justifies conclusions based on economic theory;
- critically analyses arguments concerning international economics and presents and justifies their own arguments.

The concept of comparative advantage: the Ricardian model; the specific factors model; Heckscher-Ohlin model; externam economies of scale; international trade policy instruments; national income accounting and the balance of payments; exchange rates and foreign exchange market; money market; interest rate parity; output and exchange rate in the short run; fixed exchange rates and foreign exchange intervention.

Lõpphinne kujuneb järgnevalt: Moodle testid (10%), kontrolltöö (25%), eksam (65%). Õppeaine loetakse positiivselt sooritatuks, kui üliõpilane on tervikuna kogunud vähemalt 51 punkti. Eksamile mitte ilmumise korral üliõpilane lõpphindamisele ei pääse ning tulemuseks on „mitteilmunud“ („MI“).

The final grade is composed of the following: Moodle tests (10%), written test (25%), exam (65%). The student has passed the course if he/she has received at least 51 points. If the student does not show up for the exam, the final result of the course will be “not attended” (“MI”).
