Anda rahvusvaheliselt tunnustatud nõuetele vastavad praktilisele kasutamisele suunatud teoreetilised teadmised meresõiduohutuse tagamise seadusandlikest ja praktilistest aspektidest. Õpetada laevakokkupõrgete vältimist ja anda praktilise oskused kasutada rahvusvahelisi laevakokkupõrgete vältimise reegleid. Anda edasi teadmised ja põhimõtted, mida tuleb järgida laeva vahiteenistuses, vastavalt STCW-78 koos muudatustega osa A-II/1 nõuetele.

Provide internationally adopted knowledge , understanding and proficiency on legal and practical ways to maintain ship safety and security. Also watchkeeping arrangements and principles to be observed.
Provide ability to prevent collisions at sea according to STCW-78 as amended part A-II/1 requirements.

- tunneb põhjalikult Rahvusvaheliste laevakokkupõrgete vältimise reeglite sisu, mõistab eesmärke ja oskab reegleid õigesti kasutada;
- tunneb meresõiduohutuse ja vastava järelevalve seadusandlikku baasi;
- tunneb laeva päästevahendite kasutamist ja teab avariiolukordadeks valmisoleku põhiprintsiipe ja organisatsiooni;
- oskab ette valmistada ja organiseerida õppusi ja õppehäireid;
- tunneb ohutusnõudeid, oskab organiseerida ohtlikke töid laevas ja teab kuidas osaleda laeva turvalisuse tagamisel;
- oskab vältida troopilist tsüklonit ja orkaani.

      Assessment criterion
      The level of achieving the learning outcomes is assessed according to the following scale:
      1) „A “(5) (Excellent) –an excellent and outstandingly comprehensive level of achieving learning outcomes that is characterized by free and creative use of knowledge and skills at a level that is above very good.
      2) „B“ (4) (Very good) –a very good level of achieving the learning outcomes that is characterized by a purposeful and creative use of knowledge and skills. In case of more specific and detailed knowledge and skills, insubstantial minor mistakes might occur.
      3) „C“ (3) (Good) –a good level of learning outcomes is achieved that is characterized by a purposeful use of knowledge and skills. In case of more specific and detailed knowledge and skills, the student is uncertain and imprecise.
      4) „D“ (2) (Satisfactory) –achieving a sufficient level of learning outcomes that is characterized by the ability to use knowledge and skills in ordinary situations; however, in unusual situations deficiencies and hesitation become apparent
      5) „E“ (1) (Poor) –achieving the most important learning outcomes at a minimum level that is characterized by a limited use of knowledge and skills under typical circumstances; however, in unusual situations, significant deficiencies and hesitation become apparent.
      6) „F“ (0) (Fail) –student has acquired knowledge and skills at a level below the minimum.
      Ship bridge simulator participation is assessed as „counted“ in case of necessary activity.
      COLTREG Rules are assessed as:
      „A“ (5) - „Excellent“ – 96-100% right answers
      „B“ (4) – „Very good“ – 95-90% right answers
      „C“ (3) – „Good“ – 89-85% right answers
      „D“ (2) – „Satisfactory“ – 84-75% right answers
      „E“ (1) – „Poor“ is below of acceptable competency
      „F“ (0) – „Fail“ is below of acceptable competency

      Homeworks and tests are assessed as:
      „A“ (5) – „Excellent“ – answer without mistakes, solution correctly argued
      „B“ (4) – „Very good“ – answer without mistakes, solution with defects
      „C“ (3) – „Good“ – answer based on right teoretical basis without lapsus
      „D“ (2) – „Satisfactory“ – answer based on right teoretical basis, but solution has defects
      „E“ (1) – „Poor“ – answer brought schematically
      „F“ (0) – „Fail“ – probleem is not uderstood
      Mark A-E allows participation at exam
      Final mark
      COLREG – 40%, safety items 40%, examenation 20% Homeworks and tests
      Criterion for final assessment: participation in real watchkeeping in Academy assessed by Chief Watc Officer.
