Õppeaine üldeesmärk on anda õppijale vajalikud teadmised ja oskused mootorlaeva automaatseadmete ja kontrollmõõteriistade tehniliseks kasutamiseks vastavalt STCW-78 koos lisadega ptk. III jaotis A-III/I nõuetele.

The general objective of the subject is to give students the knowledge and proficiency needed to work as an officer in charge of an engineering watch on a motor ship in accordance with in accordance with requirements of part A Ch. III Section A-III/I of STCW 1978, as amended.

Õppija peab teadma:
• automaatreguleerimise ja –juhtimise põhimõtteid ja seaduspärasusi;
• automaatreguleerimis- ja juhtimissüsteemide ning kontrollmõõteriistade omadusi, struktuuri ja põhielemente, nende tööpõhimõtet ja karakteristikuid;
Õppija peab oskama:
• identifitseerida ja lugeda automaatkontrolli, -reguleerimise ja -juhtimise funktsionaalseid skeeme.
• hinnata laeva automaatsüsteemide tehnilist seisukorda, reguleerida nende tööd ja häälestada vajalikule töörežiimile; avastada rikkeid ja häireid laeva automaatsüsteemide töös ning adekvaatselt sellele reageerida;

• Principles of automatic control,
• Characteristics and structure of automatic control systems, their elements and instrumentation.
The student is able:
• To identify and understand the diagrams of automatic control systems.
• To determine the condition of automatic control systems, tune the control systems, find the faults and make the corrective actions.

Automaatreguleerimise alused. Automaatne mõõtmine ja kontroll. Automaatreguleerimise seadused, automaatregulaatorite sõlmed, kontroll-mõõteriistad. Automaatkontrolli, -kaitse, signalisatsiooni ja blokeerimissüsteemid. Pöörlemissageduse regulaatorid, õli ja vee parameetrite automaatreguleerimine, laeva süsteemide juhtimine, automatiseerimine.
