Õppeaine üldeesmärk on anda õppijale vajalikud teadmised ja oskused mootorlaeva mehhanismide tehniliseks kasutamiseks vastavalt STCW-78 koos lisadega A-III/I ptk. 3-2, A-VIII/2 ptk. 3-2 ja 5-2 ning EV kutsestandardi vahimehaanik III nõuetele.

The general objective of the subject is to give students the knowledge and proficiency needed to work as an officer in charge of an engineering watch on a motor ship in accordance with Section A-III/1, Ch. 3-2, A-VIII/2 Ch. 3-2 and 5-2 of STCW 1978, as amended, and the requirements of competence of the Estonian professional standard for Engineer officer III.

Üliõpilane:
- teab erinevate keevituse- ja tulega lõikamise meetodite füüsikalisi aluseid, kasutusalasid ning erinevate konstruktsioonimaterjalide keevitatavust ja lõigatavust;
- järgib tööohutuse, töötervishoiu, tule- ja elektriohutuse nõudeid elekter- ja gaaskeevitusel ning hapnik-atsetüleenleegiga lõikamisel;
- valib keevitusviisi, -materjale ja -reziime vastavalt keevitatava detaili (toote) materjalile ning konstruktiivsetele iseärasustele;
- teostab lihtsamaid käsielekterkaar-, gaaskeevituse ja gaaslõikamistöid;
- hindab keevisõmbluse kvaliteeti;
- kasutab individuaalseid kaitsevahendeid.

The student:
- knows physical basics of different welding and thermal cutting methods, welding and thermal cutting properties of different materials;
- complies with the requirements for work environment safety, health, fire and electrical safety in electricity and gas welding and when cutting oxygen-acetylene flaame;
- chooses right welding mode for given piece (product), technique and materials;
- carries out simple manual electroarc, gas welding and gas cutting works;
- evaluates quality of welding joints;
- uses proper individual safety devices.

Erinevate keevitus- ja tulega lõikamise viiside olemus ja liigid. Keevitaja töökoha korraldamine. Tervistkahjustavad faktorid keevitamisel, tervisekaitse ja tööohutuse, elektriohutuse ja tuleohutuse nõuded. Käsielekterkaarkeevituse vooluallikad, elektroodide ja keevitusrežiimide valiku alused. Detailide ettevalmistamine. Keevisliidete tüübid. Käsikaarkeevituse tehnika. Keevisõmbluste defektid, nende määramine ja kõrvaldamine.
Erinevate lehtmetalli ja torude liidete praktiline käsikaarkeevitamine.
Gaaskeevitusaparatuuri käsitsemise ja hoidmise nõuded, tuleohutuse nõuded gaaskeevitamisel ja lõikamisel. Lõikurite ja põletite leegi süütamine ja reguleerimine
Gaaskeevituse ja -lõikamise praktilised tööd. Rakiste kasutamine.
Praktiliste tööde sooritamine:
1. Süsinikterasest 6…8 mm paksuse lehtmetalli põkkliide pikkusega vähemalt 30 cm. Asend - alumine, keevitusviis - käsielekterkaarkevitus koos liite elementide väljalõikamise ja keevitamiseks ettevalmistamisega. Kvaliteedi kontroll - visuaalne.
2. 8 mm paksusest lehtterasest etteantud läbimõõduga ketta väljalõikamine gaaslõikamisega.
brief description of the course in English
Nature and classification of different welding and thermal cutting methods. Organisation of welder’s working place. Factors in welding health hazards, health and safety, electrical safety and fire safety requirements. Power sources of manual arc welding, the electrodes and the basics for the selection of working regimens. Preparation of the component parts. The types of weld joints. Manual metal arc welding technique. Detection of weld joint defects and methods of repair.
Practical manual arc welding of different joont types of sheet metal and tubes.
Requirements of gas welding equipment handling and storage, the fire safety requirements by gas welding and cutting.
Practical works of welding and cutting.
1. Butt welding joint of 6…8 mm thickness carbon steel at least 30 cm length. Position - lower, welding mode - manual arc welding, with proper preparing of joint elements and choosing appropriate welding regimes and electrodes. Evaluation of quality -visual.
2. Manufactoring of disc with predefined diameter from 8 mm thickness carbon steel by using gas cutting.
