Õppeaine üldeesmärk on anda õppijale vajalikud teadmised ja oskused mootorlaeva mehhanismide ja süsteemide tehniliseks kasutamiseks ja vahipidamiseks vastavalt STCW-78 koos lisadega A osa ptk. III jaotis A-III/2 nõuetele.

The general objective of the subject is to give students the knowledge and proficiency needed to work as an officer in charge of an engineering watch on a motor ship in accordance with requirements of part A Ch. III Section A-III/2 of STCW 1978, as amended.

Üliõpilane:
• teab ja nimetab laeva diiseljõuseadme kõiki põhielemente, süsteeme, abimehhanisme ja kontroll- ning juhtimisaparatuuri, nende otstarvet, ehitust, tööpõhimõtteid ja koostööd;
• tunneb jõuseadme ja selle koostisosade tehnilisi iseärasusi ja põhiparameetreid ja
• diiseljõuseadmete tehnilise ekspluatatsiooni nõudeid;
• teab ja järgib tegutsemisjärjekorda ja –juhiseid jõuseadmete teenindamisel normaalsetes tingimustes ja avariiolukordades.
• sooritab vajalikke operatsioone seadmete käivitamiseks, seiskamiseks ja ekspluateerimiseks normaaltingimustes ja eriolukordades;
• selgitab välja ja kõrvaldab rikked ja häireid jõuseadmete töös

Know:
- Working principles, classification, main elements, purpose, interaction and performance of ships diesel propulsion plant and systems.
- Features and main parameters of propulsion plant and its components.
- Technical operation instructions of propulsion plant.
- Procedures and instructions for correct operation of ships propulsion plant in normal and emergency situations.

- To prepare, start and stop propulsion plant components in correct way in normal and emergency situations.
- To find possible faults and failures in propulsion plant performance and take corrective actions.

Tutvumine masinaruumi simulaatori ehituse ja tööjuhistega.

Ro-RO laeva diiseljõuseadme elektrijaam. Diiselgeneraatorid, nende käivitus ja lülitused kilbil.
Abikatel ja aurusüsteem. Katla ja diislite kütusesüsteemid.
Kütuse- ja õliseparaatorid, nende käivitus.
Peamasin ja tema süsteemid. Peamasina juhtimine kohalikust puldist ja masina kontrollruumist.
Magesti ja tema käivitus.
Võlligeneraator ja tema kasutamine. Laeva kuivendussüsteem , tuletõrjesüsteem ja ballastisüsteem.
Peamasina inditseerimine ja tema tehnilise seisukorra hindamine. Rikete leidmine ja korrigeerimine.

Ohutu vahiteenistuse korraldamine masinaruumis. Vahi vastuvõtmine, vahipidamine, vahi üleandmine. Masinavahi koosseisu juhtimine.
Praktilised harjutused erinevate rikete leidmiseks ja nende kõrvaldamiseks. Masinavahi koosseisu juhtimine avariiolukordades.

Familiarisation with engine room simulator layout and trainee manual.

Ro-Ro ship Electrical Power Plant. Generators operation and connecting to network. Auxiliary boiler and steam system. Fuel oil system of diesel engines and boiler. Main engine and supporting systems. Operation of main engine from local control post and from engine control room. Water desalination plant – arrangement and operation. Shaft generaator, its construction and operation. Practical exercises for faultfinding and corrective actions. Control and tuning the combustion process in cylinders. Indicator diagrams.

Practical exercises for faultfinding and corrective actions. Application of leadership during watchkeeping. Maintain a safe engineering watch in engine room in normal and emergency situations.
