Õppeaine üldeesmärk on anda õppijale vajalikud teadmised ja oskused mootorlaeva mehhanismide tehniliseks kasutamiseks vastavalt STCW-78 koos lisadega A osa ptk. III jaotis A-III/I ja IMO mudelkursuse 3.17 nõuetele.

The general objective of the subject is to give students the knowledge and proficiency needed to work as an officer in charge of an engineering watch on a motor ship in accordance with requirements of part A Ch. III Section A-III/I of STCW 1978, as amended and IMO model course 3.17.

Üliõpilane:
• oskab vestelda ja väljendada ennast suuliselt ja kirjalikult õpitud eriala valdkonna raames inglise keeles
• kasutab kõnes ja kirjas laevade ehituse, laevamehhanismide, diiselmootori osade, mootorisüsteemide ja tööriistade korrektset terminoloogiat
• saab aru erialastest tekstidest ja masinaruumi dokumentatsioonist
• oskab vestelda ja väljendada ennast suuliselt ja kirjalikult õpitud eriala valdkonna raames inglise keeles
• kasutab kõnes ja kirjas laevade ehituse, laevamehhanismide, diiselmootori osade, mootorisüsteemide ja tööriistade korrektset terminoloogiat
• saab aru erialastest tekstidest ja masinaruumi dokumentatsioonist
