Õppeaine üldeesmärk on anda õppijale vajalikud teadmised ja oskused laeva elektrimehaaniku töökohustuste täitmiseks vastavalt STCW-78 koos lisadega A osa ptk. III jaotiste A-III/6 ja A-III/7 nõuetele.

The general objective of the subject is to give students the knowledge and proficiency needed to work as an electro-technical officer on a motor ship in accordance with requirements of part A Ch. III Sections A-III/6 and A-III/7 of STCW 1978, as amended.

Õppija peab
teadma:
- laeva pea- ja abimehhanismide, ja laevasüsteemide otstarvet, paigutust laeval, tööpõhimõtet ning ehitust;
- laeva elektrijaama, jaotuskilpide, elektritarbijate ja elektrisüsteemide otstarvet ning paigutust;
- laeva elektrivarustussüsteemide, elektrimasinate ja süsteemide komponentide tööpõhimõtteid, ehitust ja kasutusnõudeid
- laevamehhanismide juhtimis- ja automaatreguleerimise süsteemide ülesehitust, tööpõhimõtteid ja ekspluatatsiooninõudeid
- masinameeskonna koosseisu ja nendevahelist kohustuste jaotust, laevaelektriku ja elektrimehaaniku töökohustusi, vastutust ja õigusi ning masinavahi korraldust laeval;
- laeva sisekorra eeskirju, tööohutuse, elektri- ja tuleohutuse nõudeid laeval, tegutsemisjuhiseid avarii- ja eriolu-kordades, päästevahendite asukohta ja nende kasutamist, avariiväljapääsude paigutust, laevasiseseid side- ja teadustusvahendeid ja nende kasutamist;
oskama:
- ette valmistada laevamehhanismide juhtimissüsteeme käivitamiseks, käivitada, panna seisma, teenindada töös ja hooldada laevaelektriku jaoks nõutava kompetentsi piirides;
- reguleerida elektriliste koormuste jaotust ja viia generaatoreid tööle paralleelselt
- kasutada statsionaarseid ja portatiivseid mõõteriistu elektri- ja juhtimissüsteemide tüüpiliste rikete avastamiseks ja neid kõrvaldada
- kasutada laevasiseseid side- ja teadustusvahendeid.

The students will
Know:
- Purpose, location, working principles and construction of main- and auxiliary machinery, auxiliary boilers and piping systems;
- Purpose and location of ship’s electric plant, switchboards, electric consumers and cable nets of ship;
- working principles, construction and requirements of safety operation of electrical maschines, electrical energy providing systems and their components
- working principles, construction and requirements of safety operation of governing and automatic control systems of ship's machinery
- Staff of engine room and distribution of obligations, obligations, responsibilities and rights of an rating, forming part of an engineering watch, and arrangement of watchkeeping on ship;
- Ship’s routine regulations, instructions of occupational safety, electric safety and requirements of fire protection, activities in emergency and special conditions, location and using of lifesaving devices, location of emergency exits, using of internal communication and information devices.

- To prepare for starting, start up, operate, shut down, serving and maintenance of main- and auxiliary machinery and systems in accordance of required competences for electro-technical rating, forming part of an engineering watch;
- To control working parametres of electrical systems and equipment;
- To use measure instruments for detecting typical faults of electrical systems and remove To use ship’s internal communication and information devices.
