The course aims to give doctoral students a perspective of maritime economics, and
maritime legislation and conventions and their development possibilities in the context of
ongoing changes.

- analüüsib meremajanduse turgusid;
- seostab meremajandust maailmamajandusega;
- eristab nutikaid merendus- ja sadamatehnoloogiaid ning -operatsioone;
- kasutab turbulentset merendusturgu arvesse võttes nutikaid lahendusi laevandusettevõtete strateegiate planeerimisel.

After completing this course, the student:
- analyses maritime economic markets;
- links maritime markets to global economics;
- differentiates between various smart maritime and port technologies and operations;
- develops strategies of shipping companies in the turbulent maritime markets with smart technologies and operations.

- Laevanduse, sadamate ja nendega seotud transpordiahelate jätkusuutlik arendamine ja juhtimine.
- Erinevate laevanduse turgude mõjurite teadmine ja rakendamine.
- Meremajanduse, merenduspoliitika, laevanduse ja/või sadamate ning globaalsete terneahelate suurandmete analüüs ning andmepõhiselt tõhustatud valitsemine.
- Meremajanduse mõju keskkonnale (seadusandlus, ettevõtlus, sotsiaalne) ning uute jätkusuutlike lahenduste väljatöötamise võimalused.
- Tehnoloogiliste arengute ja jätkusuutlikkuse nõuete mõju laevandusele ja sadamatele.
- Merendusorganisatsioonide tegevuse/otsuste mõju tarkade lahenduste väljatöötamisele.
- Merenduse konventsioonide ja organisatsioonide (IMO, STCW, SOLAS; MARPOL, IAPH, IALA, BIMCO, jne) riiklik rakendamine ning merenduse ohutuse, turvalisuse, keskkonnaohutuse ja laevade energiatõhususe arendamine.
- Transpordisüsteemi parem toimimine – info kiirem liikumine, protseduuride väiksema kuluga läbiviimine, parema kvaliteediga teenuse osutamine.
- Tarkade lahenduste kasutamine erinevatel meremajanduse tegevustasanditel (strateegilisest tasandist operatiivtasandini).
- Tarkade lahenduste kasutamine meremajanduse institutsioonide koostöö arendamisel, sektori konkurentsivõime kasvatamine.

- Optimization of shipping, ports and their sustainable management from economic and supply chain perspectives.
- Understand the economics of various shipping markets, their drivers and outcomes.
- Investigation of maritime economics and policy, shipping and/or port operations and management, global supply chains, port governance, and maritime analytics using big data.
- The effects of maritime activities on the environment, ways (at policy and operational levels) of limiting and ideally avoiding such effects, and the development of new and sustainable practices for the maritime industry.
- Profound understanding of how various technological developments and sustainability requirements change shipping and port operations.
- Impact of decisions of maritime organizations on the development of smart solutions.
- Development of nautical conventions and organisations (IMO, STCW, SOLAS, MARPOL, IAPH, IALA, BIMCO, etc) and regulations leading to national implementation of conventions instruments, and the policy implications on maritime safety and security, environmental protection and ship efficiency.
- Better performance of the transport system - a faster flow of information, less costly procedures, better service quality.
- Using smart solutions at different levels of the maritime economy (from strategic to operational).
- Using smart solutions to develop inter-institutional cooperation in the maritime economy, increasing the competitiveness of the sector.
