Õppeaine eesmärk on:
- luua üliõpilasele tingimused baasteadmiste omandamiseks äriettevõtte töökorraldusest ja juhtimisest merenduses;
- anda üliõpilasele üldteadmised, arusaamine ja praktiliste oskuste rakendamise võimalus merendusettevõtte strateegilises ja operatiivses planeerimises ning juhtimises; laevandusfirmade, sadamate ja merenduse vahendusfirmade kommertstegevuses.

The aim of this course is to:
- create conditions for the student to acquire basic knowledge of the organization and management of a commercial enterprise in the maritime sector;
- provide the student with general knowledge, understanding and the opportunity to apply practical skills in the strategic and operational planning and management of a maritime company; in the commercial activities of shipping companies, ports and maritime brokerage companies.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- formuleerib ja pakub välja tulemuslikke juhtimise strateegiaid ning oskab teostada strateegilist ja operatiivplaneerimist eri tüüpi merendusettevõtete jaoks;
- võrdleb omavahel ja eristab eri tüüpi merendusettevõtete spetsiifilisi juhtimise, töökorralduse, finants- ja kommertstegevuse praktikaid;
- kujundab ja soovitab konkreetse merendusettevõtte spetsiifikat arvestavaid parimaid praktikaid ettevõtte juhtimisel ja tegevuse planeerimisel.

After completing this course, the student:
- formulates and proposes effective management strategies and can carry out strategic and operational planning for different types of maritime companies;
- compares and distinguishes the specific management, work organization, financial and commercial practices of different types of maritime companies;
- designs and recommends best practices in corporate management and operational planning that take into account the specifics of a particular maritime company.

Merendusettevõtte ülesehituse üldpõhimõtted; ettevõtte tegevuse planeerimise, eestvedamise, kontrollimise põhimõtted. Turunduse strateegiad. Finantsjuhtimise alused. Kvaliteedijuhtimise alused.
Laevandusfirma ülesanded ja struktuur. Laevandusfirma tegevuse planeerimise ja korraldamise alused. Laevandusfirma juhtimise ja turunduse iseärasused. Laevandusfirma ja laeva operatiivtegevuse ökonoomika, laevareisi optimaalse planeerimise alused. Laeva kui ettevõtte juhtimise alused. Laevandusfirma strateegiline juhtimine. Laevandusfirma tulude ja kulude optimeerimine, investeeringute planeerimine. Liini- ja tramplaevanduse iseärasused.
Vahendusfirmade (agenteerimis- ekspedeerimisfirmad jm) tegevuse eesmärk ja olemus, nende töökorralduse ja juhtimise iseärasused.
Sadama toimimise põhimõtted (sadamate olemus, tegevusmudelid, alternatiivsed sadamahaldussüsteemid jms). Sadamas osutatavad teenused. Sadama produktiivsuse ja ohutuse kriteeriumid, tegevuse planeerimine ja optimeerimine. Sadamatasud ja -tariifid. Sadamate tegutsemist mõjutavad kaasaegsed protsessid (digitaliseerimine, automatiseerimine, küberturvalisus, värkvõrk, Tööstus 4.0 sadamates jms).

General principles of the structure of a business company in maritime; principles of planning, leadership, and control of a company's activities. Marketing strategies. Fundamentals of financial management. Fundamentals of quality management.
Tasks and structure of a shipping company. Fundamentals of planning and organizing the activities of a shipping company. Peculiarities of management and marketing of a shipping company. Economics of operational activities of a shipping company and a ship, basics of optimal planning of a ship's voyage. Basics of managing a ship as a company. Strategic management of a shipping company. Optimization of revenues and expenses of a shipping company, investment planning. Features of liner and tramp shipping.
Purpose and nature of the activities of intermediary companies (agency, forwarding companies, etc.), features of their work organization and management.
Principles of port operation (nature of ports, operating models, alternative port management systems, etc.). Services provided in the port. Criteria for port productivity and safety, planning and optimization of activities. Port fees and tariffs. The operations of ports are influenced by modern processes (digitalization, automation, cybersecurity, networking, Industry 4.0 in ports, etc.).
