Aine eesmärk on:
- anda üliõpilastele ettekujutus sadamates käsitletavatest kaupadest, nende füüsikalis-keemilistest omadustest, tulenevatest ohtudest kauba ladustamisel ja käsitlemisel, ohtude minimiseerimise võimalustest, kaupade pakendamisest, lastiplaanist;
- omandada merenduses ohtlike lastide käsitlemise põhimõtted;
- rakendada õpitut praktilises keskkonnas.

The aim of this course is to:
- give an overview of cargoes handled in ports, their characterisitcs, hazards handling them, minimizing the hazards, packaging cargoes, making cargo plan;
- obtain thep rinciples of handling dangerous goods in ports;
- apply learnt knowledge in a practical environment.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- selgitab kaupade jagunemist ja nimetab eri tüüpi kaupade eriomadusi;
- selgitab eriomadustest tulenevaid eritingimusi kauba ladustamisel ja käsitlemisel;
- määrab kaubale sobiva pakendi ja markeeringu, hindab kauba/pakendi seisukorda ja vajadusel tunneb ära võimaliku ohuteguri;
- rakendab ohtlike lastide käsitlemist puudutavatest rahvusvahelistest ja riiklikkest regulatsioonidest tulenevaid nõudeid kaupade käsitlemisel, ladustamisel ja markeerimisel;
- oskab tegutseda ohtlike kaupade käsitlemisest tulenenud eriolukorras;
- määrab kaupade iseloomustajatest tulenevalt ohuteguri, valib pakendi ja markeeringu ning vormistab dokumentatsiooni praktilises keskkonnas.

After completing this course, the student:
- explains the classification of goods and identifies the different characteristics of different types of goods;
- explains special conditions for storing and handling based on different characteristics of goods;
- identifies the appropriate packaging and labelling of goods, assesses the condition of the goods/packaging and, where necessary, identifies potential hazards;
- applies the requirements of international and national regulations on the handling, storage and labelling of dangerous goods;
- is able to deal with emergency situations arising from the handling of dangerous goods;
- determines the risk factor based on the characteristics of the goods, chooses packaging and marking, formalizes documentation in a practical environment.

Lastide jaotus, kasutatavad mõõtühikud, põhikarakteristikud. Tükklastid, metalllastid, puitlastid, paber, puistlastid, vedellastid, erilastid – kiirestiriknevad lastid ja ohtlikud kaubad, konteineriseeritud kaubad, intermodaalsed kaubaühikud. Laeva lastiplaan.
Ohtlik kaup. Ohtlike kaupade rahvusvahelised regualtsioonid, nt IMDG Code – ohtlike kaupade mereveo koodeks, IBC. Ohtlike kaupade riiklikud regulatsioonid, nt kemikaaliseadus. Ohtlike kaupade sadamast läbivedamise protsess, ettevõttesisene dokumentatsioon. Ohtlike kaupade markeerimine. Ohtlike kaupade käsitlemine ja ladustamine. Tegutsemine ohuolukorras. Esmaabi osutaminse põhimõtted.

Distribution of goods, units of measurement used, basic characteristics. General cargo, metal goods, forest products, paper, dry and liquid bulk goods, special loads - perishable goods and dangerous goods, containerised goods, intermodal units.
Ship's cargo plan.
Dangerous goods. International regimes for dangerous goods, e.g. IMDG Code - International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code, IBC. National regulations on dangerous goods, e.g. Chemicals Act. Process of transporting dangerous goods through ports, in-house documentation. Marking of dangerous goods. Handling and storage of dangerous goods. Handling in case of emergency. Principles of first aid.
