Aine eesmärk on anda üliõpilastele teadmisi meresadamate funktsioonidest, srtuktuurist ja töökorraldusest ning nende toimimise printsiipidest; arendada üliõpilastes oskust mõelda loovalt ja struktureeritult ning rakendada juhtimisprintsiipe, -meetodeid ja kestliku arengu põhimõtteid sadamate strateegilisel ning operatiivsel planeerimisel, juhtimisel ja majandamisel.
Üliõpilased omandavad sadamate ja sadamaalade planeerimise põhimõtted ning teadmised ja oskused sadama turvalisuse ning ohutuse printsiipde rakendamiseks.

The aim of this course is to give the student knowledge of functions, structure and organisation of work of seaports and principles of operation; develop students' ability to think creatively and in a structured way, and to apply management principles, methods and principles of sustainable development to the strategic and operational planning, leadership and management of ports.
The students will acquire knowledge of planning ports and port areas and holistic approach of planning, and acquire knowledge and skills to implement port safety and security principles.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- kirjeldab sadamat kui organisatsiooni, peamisi sadama juhtimise põhimõtteid;
- selgitab sadamakonkurentsivõimet mõjutavaid tegureid, sadamatevahelist ja sadamasisest konkurentsi olemust;
- omab ülevaadet sadamate tegevust puudutavast õigusraamistikust;
- kirjeldab sadama tootmisprotsesse ja töökorraldust ning rakendab teadmisi sadama ja selle üksuste töö organiseerimisel;
- omab teadmisi sadamate ja sadamaalade planeerimise üldiseid põhimõtteid, planeerimise protsessi erinevaid etappe;
- kirjeldab kestliku arengu põhimõtteid sadama töös;
- analüüsib kestliku arengu eesmärkide saavutamise võimalusi (sh dekarboniseerimine, digitaliseerimine).

After completing this course, the student:
- describes the port as an organisation, the main principles of port management;
- explains the factors influencing port competitiveness, the nature of inter- and intra-port competition;
- has an overview of the legal framework governing the operation of ports;
- describes the production processes and organisation of a port and applies knowledge to the organisation of the port and its units;
- has knowledge of the general principles of port and port area planning, the different stages of the planning process;
- describes the principles of sustainable development in port operations;
- analyses the options for achieving sustainable development objectives (including decarbonisation, digitalisation).

International and national port safety and security regulations, including the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS). The history of the emergence of regulations. Compliance with the requirements of the regulations in the port. Implementation of security requirements in port. Risk assessment.
Sustainable development objectives and their implementation in ports. Options for achieving the SDGs (including decarbonisation, digitalisation) and the different operational models that result from them.
