Aine eesmärk on anda teadmised kestlikkusega seotud globaalsetest väljakutsetest ja trendidest, mis kujundavad meretransporti; meretranspordi roll säästva arengu eesmärkide saavutamisel; iga inimese individuaalne roll selles protsessis; dekarboniseerimine, digitaliseerimine jt meetmete rakendamine SAE-de saavutamisel; enesejuhtimise ja tiimitöö oskuste arendamine SAE näidetel.

The aim of this course is to provide knowledge of the global sustainability challenges and trends shaping maritime transport; the role of maritime transport in achieving the SDGs; the individual role of each person in this process.; implementing decarbonisation, digitalisation and other measures to achieve the SDGs; developing self-management and teamwork skills based on SDG examples.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- nimetab kestliku arengu eesmärke ja kirjeldab merendust enim mõjutavaid jätkusuutlikkuse teemasid;
- kirjeldab nende teemade majanduslikku, keskkondlikke jms mõjusid merendusele ja merenduse mõju neile;
- rakendab kestlikkuse põhimõtteid töös ja igapäevaelus;
- hindab erinevate lahenduste mõju SAEde saavutamisel.

After completing this course the student:
- identifies the SDGs and describes the sustainability issues that most affect the maritime sector;
- describes the economic, environmental, etc. impacts of these issues on the maritime sector and the impact of maritime activities on them;
- applies sustainability principles in work and daily life;
- assesses the impact of different solutions in achieving the SDGs.

Säästva arengu eesmärgid. SAEd merenduses, IMO lähenemine. Regulatsioonid. Tegevuse jalajälg, keskonnajalajälg toote ja/või teenuse elukaare vältel. Kestliku arengut toetavad meetmed (dekarboniseerimine, digitaliseerimine, alternatiivsed kütused …). Uute, innovatiivsete lahenduste (MASS laevad ja teised autonoomsed lahendused, digitaalne kaksik, rohekoridor, tehisaru jm) roll SAEde saavutamisel. Survemehhanismid (maksud, kauplemiskvoodid …). Kestliku arengueesmärkide täitmisega seotud probleemid. Sotsiaalne mõju ja vastutus.

Sustainable development goals. SDGs in maritime affairs, IMO approach. Regulations, legal framework. Operational footprint, average life cycle footprint of a product and/or service. Measures in support of sustainable development (decarbonisation, digitalisation, alternative fuels ...). The role of new, innovative solutions (MASS vessels and other autonomous solutions, digital twin, green corridor, artificial intelligence, etc.) in achieving SDGs. Retaliation mechanisms (taxes, trading quotas ...). Challenges in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals. Social impact and responsibilities.
