course aims in Estonian
Aine eesmärk on:
- anda ülevaade kaasaegsete globaalsete navigatsioonisüsteemide (GNSS) põhiprintsiipidest ning meetodite rakendamisest hüdrograafiliste tööde läbiviimiseks;
- anda praktilised oskused globaalsete satelliitnavigatsioonisüsteemide (GNSS) kasutamiseks hüdrograafias;
- õpetada lugema ning töötlema vastuvõetud GNSS andmeid MATLAB-i abil;
- anda teoreetilised ja praktilised oskused asukoha määramatuse hindamiseks.
course aims in English
The aim of this course is to:
- give an overview of the basic principles of modern global navigation systems (GNSS) and the application of methods for performing hydrographic works;
- provide practical skills in the use of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) in hydrography;
- teach to read and process received GNSS data using MATLAB;
- provide theoretical and practical skills on requirements and methods for horizontal and vertical marine kinematic positioning, vessel and sensor orientation, with an emphasis on managing the uncertainties involved in each method.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- saab aru, kuidas toimib asukohamääramine SatNav süsteemide abil;
- oskab läbi viia RTK-GPS mõõtmisi ning andmetöötlust (vajadusel kasutab seejuures GNSS püsivaatlusjaamade andmeid) hüdrograafiliste mõõdistuste läbiviimiseks;
- teab võimalikke vigade allikaid ja oskab neid vältida;
- teab GNSS vastuvõtjate paigaldamisteooriat ja oskab GNSS vastuvõtjat paigaldada, sh ujuvale alusele.

After completing this course the student:
- understands how position finding is realized in SatNav systems;
- is capable of conducting static, rapid and real-time kinematic GPS measurements and data post-processing (using GNSS augmentation stations data if required) for hydrographic surveys;
- knows possible error sources and how to eliminate them;
- understands the mounting principles of GNSS receivers and know how to install them on different surfaces and platforms.

Kursuse teemad: horisontaalse ja vertikaalse kinemaatilise positsioneerimine merel; laeva ja andurite orientatsiooni nõuded ja mõõdistusmeetodid; süsteemide kirjelduse, mis põhinevad satelliiditehnoloogia, maapealsete tugijaamade, akustiliste signaalide ja inertsiaaltehnoloogia kasutamisel.
Kursus sisaldab nii klassiruumi-, lugemis- kui ka praktilisi kogemuspõhiseid õppetegevusi.
Kursusel Praktilised tööd: GNSS andmete parsimine MATLAB-i abil; GNSS staatiline mõõtmine käsivastuvõtja abil, WAAS kasutamisega ja ilma. Andmetöötlus MATLAB-is; GNSS staatiline mõõtmine 2-sagedusliku vastuvõtja abil, püsivaatlusjaama(de) kasutamine; asukohamääramise sh üleminek satelliitkoordinaatsüsteemist (3D) ristkoordinaatideks (2D+h), GNSS seadmete paigaldamine ujuvalusele ja seadmete geomeetriline kontroll laeval.

Course topics: horizontal and vertical kinematic positioning at sea; ship and sensor orientation requirements and measurement methods; a description of the systems based on the use of satellite technology, ground base stations, acoustic signals and inertial technology.
The course includes classroom, reading and practical experiential learning activities.
In the course Practical works: Parsing GNSS data using MATLAB; GNSS static measurement with hand-held receiver, with and without WAAS. Data processing in MATLAB; GNSS static measurement using a 2-frequency receiver, use of fixed observation station (s); positioning, including the transition from satellite coordinate system (3D) to orthogonal coordinates (2D + h), installation of GNSS equipment on floating castors and geometrical inspection of equipment on board.
