VERSION SPECIFIC DATA
course aims in Estonian
Aine eesmärk on anda teadmised matemaatilise modelleerimise põhialustest.
course aims in English
The aim of this course is to give knowledge about fundamentals of mathematical modelling.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- kirjeldab mudelite tüüpe ja nende konstrueerimise aluseid, dimensioonianalüüsi, mudelite determineeritust ja täpsust;
- eristab pidevaid ja diskreetseid mudeleid, viib võrrandeid dimensioonivabale kujule ja kasutab põhilisi lahendusmeetodeid.
learning outcomes in the course in Eng.
After completing this course, the student:
- describes the types of models and methods for their derivation, dimension analysis, predictability and accuracy of models;
- distinguishes between continuous and discrete models, derives dimensionless equations, uses basic methods for analysis.
brief description of the course in Estonian
Looduslike ja tehisprotsesside matemaatilise modelleerimise alused. Põhimõisted: protsesside (nähtuste, seaduspärasuste jm.) determineeritus; modelleerimise metodoloogia ja kategooriad (staatiline, dünaamiline). Matemaatiliste mudelite klassid, Dimensioonianalüüs ja sarnasuskriteeriumid. Katsete plaanimine. Mittelineaarsete mudelite omapära ja determineerituse kadu. Modelleerimise praktika (näited). Iseseisva mõtlemise arendamine, toetudes tänapäevastele tulemustele (Prigogine, Nicolis jt.) lihtsa ja keerulise lahtimõtestamisel.
Näited füüsikast, mehaanikast, bioloogiast ja ökoloogiast. Kaose teooria ja fraktaalse geomeetria rakendused.
brief description of the course in English
Basic principles of modelling of natural and engineering processes. Predictability, methods of modelling, basic types (statical, dynamical). Mathematical models. Dimensional analysis and similarity. Design of experiments. Properties of non-linear problems, the loss of predictability. Practical examples. Contemporary ideas on modelling (Prigogine, Nicolis) complexity and simplicity.
Examples from physics, mechanics, biology and ecology. Applications of chaos theory and fractal geometry.
