Learning outcomes of the study programme
Graduate of the study programme:
- has a systematic, broad-based overview of the functioning and management of the maritime sector (shipping, ports, marine environment);


- is familiar with the theoretical developments in the field of maritime affairs, current problems and application possibilities;
- is able to establish links between different sectors of the maritime sector and apply them in his/her position in a maritime company or institution;
- is able to see, formulate and analyse professional and interdisciplinary problems in the field and offer their solutions by applying appropriate methods in accordance with the available information;
- is able to formulate research goals, make hypotheses, draw conclusions and conduct research in his/her field and in the field of maritime affairs more broadly;
- is able to perform analysis following scientific principles and based on scientific literature;
- is able to critically evaluate his/her activities in solving problems and/or research questions;
- is competent to pass on his knowledge by teaching, instruction or other means;
- has sufficient qualifications to pursue doctoral studies in maritime or related fields.

Graduation requirements
Completion of the curriculum in the required amount, and the successful defence of the graduation paper in conformity with the requirements set by the TalTech Senate.
In order to obtain Cum Laude diploma the graduation paper must be defended for the grade "5" and the weighted average grade must be at least 4,60, where all grades from diploma supplement are taken into account.

      After completing this module the student:

      of the nature and processes of entrepreneurship and the role of the entrepreneur as well as the main aspects of the company's economic activities in different business environments;
      - understands the organizational structure of the company's financial management and is able to assess the economic performance, financing opportunities and risks of real investments and is able to relate the investment objectives and the company's economic goals;
      - has basic knowledge of business information systems, system analysis and business process analysis;
      - expresses himself/herself in English both in writing and verbally, uses professional terminology and follows the methodological principles of organizing research and the principles of drawing up scientific texts;

      After completing of the module, the student:
      - has a thorough overview of maritime legal regulations,

      their possible developments in the conditions of digital and green revolution and is able to use maritime information systems;
      - applies data-centric business principles and simple machine learning / statistical models appropriate to a specific case, uses appropriate software to process and visualize 3D data, and uses IoT concepts and systems in a maritime context;
      - assesses the nature of maritime risks, the degree of danger and the possibilities of mitigating the risks, knows the regulations for the prevention of marine pollution and implements both preventive and pollution elimination measures;
      - has a basic knowledge of the functioning of the maritime economy, has in-depth knowledge of the principles of economic and management of a shipping company and the organization of commercial activity of maritime transport, as well as the organization and management of ports and stevedoring;
      - understands the impact of the global economy on the logistics sector, is able to analyse and use commodity price statistics in his / her work, has a basic understanding of supply and transport chain management methods;
      - knows the construction and main characteristics of modern ships and is able to plan their activities, has an overview of the principles and challenges of the operation of unmanned ships, knows the principles of planning and organizing ship repairs.
